All of my attempts to boot the NT loader from grub have destroyed my Windows partition. It wasn't until I saw the dual-boot machines at Uni. booting Linux from the NT loader that I even discovered the solution to my dual-boot dilemma. Am adding the NVIDIA line from the AROS boot-loader, will post my results. |

Well, I have recently considered modifying my FC5 Grub to point to the AROS kernel and load that, but I have a bit more research yet to do before I go down that path (I think I have to remap the slave, or something).
I am reluctant to just go installing Grub willy-nilly as my XP partition has a spaz, and I spend months trying to get it to cooperate, and there was precious little information on getting Grub to boot from the NT loader. So, when I installed AROS, I unhooked my main drive, and let it have the system. So, I either want to add a script to my FC5 partion's Grub, or change the AROS Grub so that it points to the right partition on boot (I mean, when I boot it says it wants root (hd0,0) but it should be root (hd1,0), from memory). I suspect that this changes the root block for the drive, and that's why it has a fit loading stage one on the next boot? jJ "Good news, anyone!" - Professor Farnsworth |

I'm confused about your bootloader set-up. Is it NT Bootloader -> GRUB -> AROS? Do you have FC5 booting from it's own version of GRUB or from AROS's version?

Hello, short time reader, first-time poster...
I've had a bit of a snoop, but, as usual, I seem to come across the wierd problems. So, I've installed. I've installed grub, multiple times, via AROS-Max, Stable release and manually with the shell command, but still the same problem: Turn system on, select AROS booter from NT Bootloader, boots, change root to point to the slave (second) drive where the dh0: drive actually is, boot NVIDIA. No problem. Later, with or without going into XP or FC5 for whatever reason (both on master drive), boot, select AROS from NT Bootloader: 'GRUB read error'. Boot Windows, copy 512Kb from old bootloader from store, reboot, boot AROS: fine! Next boot, 'GRUB read error'. Reset boot loader, boot AROS, play around with grub menu, reboot -> FC5, get AROS root block: reboot -> XP set root block for NT bootloader (I'm not sure if I should trust NTFS module for Linux, yet). Reboot -> AROS, works. Next boot: GRUB read error. Long-winded, I appologise. This is a condensed version of the story. Any light anyone could shed on my troubles will be greatly appreciated. Then I can get on to finding more difficulties and fun. Maybe one day, I'll even set up cross-compilers and stuff... Please, get my hopes up! jJ "Amigan for Life." |
