In laymans terms a HIDD is basicly a library, but with a special feature! They are object oriented
 Their function is to abstract between the software and the hardware. A good example of a HIDD is the graphics.hidd, which is similar in function to the graphics.library in the original AmigaOS. In AROS the graphics.library is just a compatibility layer (wrapper) on top of the graphics.hidd.

Thanks, I looked for that but I missed it. A lot more detail then I really needed but I think I got it. If I understand this then basicly a HIDD is the interface for the software to use to gain access to hardware and the actual driver works with the HIDD.

What are they? Where do they come from? Do they need green cards? I am hoping to get a somewhat general, not too technical, explaination as to what a HIDD is. What does it do? How do device drivers relate to HIDDs? How do HIDDs relate to the hardware. Do they get along with their in-laws? Inquiring minds want to know.
