Do you people remember the AmiGlobe, digital atlas of the world for Amiga? It used CIA World Factbook data. Wasn't that one cool appication?
Look what I've found RMap uses the same .rez data (provided with RMap). It requires this simple gdLibrary to render .rez geographic vector data into GIF/PNG/JPEG image. Both of these pieces of software appear to be stright-forward to port to AROS. After it's ported, we could make a GUI wrapper so that it looks similar to AmiGlobe. gdLibrary may have some other useful applications in AROS too. I'd really like to get my hands dirty with this one. Could someone show me how to go about compiling the gdLibrary first? I assume I should use the AROS Build System to do it? Once I have the gdLibrary, how do I 'install' it as it is required by RMap at the compile time? I don't have any experience with large packages i.e. 'something that requires something else' to build... This would be a good learning example for me and others for how to go about porting things to AROS... After I master this port, I could go on and start to play with the GUI.
