We also have the aros archives that is currently using an aros-exec.org hostname that I would have to move if you're dumping the old hostname.

Ok everyone

Thanks for all the feedback and offers of help.

I am now done for now with my other site and will try and start working on a new AE. I found a converter from xoops to SMF so if i can dump the data i will try and migrate it to SMF.

If anyone wants to beta test it when i get that far send me a PM and i will send you a link (that you do not share with anyone else for now).

Excellent news!

@4pLaY: Option C. Hopefully with the old forum content moved to the new site, or accessible in some way.

You can also add that i have not set up webpages in many years, i have to re-learn even what would be considered simple things.

Or you could just ask for assistence from community members. Several people have offered to help by now.

The quickest option might be to just share access with another person.

Besides, the whole site is old and dated, and has had one too many chefs involved at some point. It is a mess id rather want to leave behind if i am to run AE anymore.

Nobody suggested to keep Xoops around forever. But the existing forum has value while a better option is being worked on.

The amiga.org approach of just shutting everything down for months is not a perfect approach. But starting from scratch is neither.

If i can and it is not too much work i will try and migrate the data so i have it for either a new site or for just preservation.

If you have access to the installation files and you can figure out the database name, user and password, one should definitely be able to export all data.

It would be great if you could preserve the as much content from AE as possible, so I vote option B).

If i go with Option B it is much more likely that i will want to have a clean start with a new CMS, most likely SMF.

I will see what can be done about saving the old data for preservation somehow, but it will most likely not be part of a potential new site.

In that case i/we misunderstood as well, so changing (initial) option twice from B into C for us (in case that wasn't clear from our previous answer.

By the way, I think the "white pages" issues is likely an Apache2 misconfiguration. Do you have access to the Apache2 log files?

I know what the problem is but i do not have access to it, this is why i said earlier that i can not keep fixing this old beast, i miss even access to crucial parts.
