My Icaros 2.2 ISO specifies exfat-handler for FAT\0 in L:automount-config, so it looks like I was right that fat-handler had been replaced, just not with an appropriate handler ![]()

Thanks for the tip. Changing it from 'exfat' to 'fat' did the trick!

FWIW I have no idea how the automatic mounting is handled in AROS, but if it only looks at the MBR partition type value it will wrongfully identify exFAT partitions as NTFS because they use the same value for this (0x07). The only way to reliably differentiate an exFAT partition from an NTFS one AFAIK is to read the first block (AKA super block) and look for either a "NTFS " or "EXFAT " signature in bytes at offsets 3 to 10 (signatures are padded to 8 bytes using spaces).

fat-handler is still available as usual, no need to search for files on older releases. It is already used bny default. Just try editing the L:automount-config file as follows, from FAT\0 = L:fat-handler NTFS = L:ntfs-handler to FAT\0 = L:exfat-handler NTFS = L:ntfs-handler and reboot the system. Probably your FAT partition needs the other handler.

So, should I revert FAT handling with the old FAT Handler by default? I never had problems with my FAT partitioned USB pendrives and disk partitions, using icaros 2.0+ fuse-based exfat handler.

If you are referring to exfat-handler then you are mistaken. It is only for extended FAT file system. For legacy FAT file systems another handler is needed. There is at least one FUSE implementation available but I haven't looked into porting any of them because both AmigaOS and AROS already have native implementations.

Hi,
Running icAROS 1.5 my FAT drive is recognized and works fine. Since about icAROS 2.0 my FAT drive is not recognized as a DOS disk and shows the NDOS icon. Is there a way of setting up later icAROS versions with the old FAT system that works for me? Thanks for the help. Nathan
