Ok, that's curl compiled and linked with ssl support - just need to fix git to compile again now ;)

Ok, this is starting to give me a headache... so I have fixed the curl patch (https://pastebin.com/DzdRqnNX), which results in the curl binary failing to compile/link. I attempted to fix the mmakefile.src to correct the wrong linklib ordering (https://pastebin.com/UkUteAGB) which looks correct in the Makefile, however it still fails -:
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/nick/AROS-build/amiga-m68k-gcc6/bin/amiga-m68k/gen/contrib/development/libs/curl/curl/src'
The reason for the failure is in the 2nd command it drops the first -lssl and I cannot for the life of me see why...

Ok, this is the root of the problem. The way it tests for SSL_connect is broken (it doesn't provide a prototype for the function, or include any header that would) - I will see if I can fix it. Weirdly, I cant see how it could ever have worked using the changes to configure in the patch we have. Edit: Ok I have it almost working now - it compiles curl with ssl support but fails linking the curl binary just now.

Well this is a bit of a head scratcher. Ive dug "a little" and so far ive found the following (but I'm not sure how to fix it just yet) -: # libcurl's configure scripts fail to detect a usable libssl.a (cant resolve SSL_Connect), so it seems curl is compiled without ssl support. # git's configure scripts call "curl-config --features", but dont find SSL support, and so dont set NEEDS_SSL_WITH_CURL # because NEEDS_SSL_WITH_CURL isn't specified, NEEDS_Z_WITH_SSL from config.mak.uname isn't used and libz isn't added to the end of the linklibs -> the reported error is shown when linking libz is linked to, but it comes before libcurl, etc, and so doesn't get used to resolve the symbols from those. Quite a regular

OK, rebuild from scratch but with everything now presumably cached in the port folder: 30m 27s so not really any different.
Note however that I performed an 'rm -rf' in the build folder so it did have to copy and unpack from my src-port folder again.

It is a bad idea, building AROS natively is painfully slow (and probably quite broken just now). One day when things are more stable/complete it may be desirable but now it would just cause more headaches.

perhaps having unified build environment as downloadable option isnt that bad idea. ideally it would be aros (x86_64 multicore) building aros itself with limited posix compatibility and tools.

You are correct (at least for now) - theres no host-side code compiled using the c++ compiler.

mhm. never knew this. so maybe its good if BFN sumarizes compiling guide a bit. i may take it a bit too straight forward.
