A few items used by the cross compiler toolchain have been "updated" - such as mpc, mpfr and gmp.

No, the first pair are defining the host compilers to use. You might also want to use the newer binutils (2.30) now instead. Quote:

OK, I guess that looks a bit crazy :)
My understanding is that I'm using 4.8 to build 6.3 which is then used to build Aros. I would have to go back over this thread to remember exactly why but from memory I was specifying 6.3 (and binutils 2.25) in order to build OWB (which ultimately failed anyway) and 4.8 because I could not build 6.3 without errors. I'll start from a clean slate and see what happens.

sorry, but do you want to compile with gcc (and g++ for that matter) 4.8 or 6.3?? one thing or the other. i think you are severly over complicating the issue. simply specify the target flag. add debug flag (if you will) and eventually add flags to specify gcc and binutils if you want anything else than default (i do). you might then add the flag to specify where to cash the package tarballs (sprtssources). thats all. imho its pretty simple.

OK, I did some times and it's a little quicker:

Old: 32m 31s
New: 30m 30s

This is without building OWB since it didn't build the last time I tried so it's make file is commented out at the moment.

Actually, is it likely to have downloaded any new port versions? If so then that would of course have had an impact. I wasn't watching it at the time so I don't know if it did or not and the timestamps in the ports dir don't appear to be the date of download.

Here is my config command for reference. Note that I'm forcing the build with GCC4.8 because 7.X didn't work for me:

configure --target=linux-x86_64 --with-c-compiler=gcc-4.8 --with-cxx-compiler=g++-4.8 --with-binutils-version=2.25 --with-gcc-version=6.3.0 --enable-ccache --with-portssources=/home/mart/Arosdev/src-ports --with-resolution=1440x900x24 --with-theme=AmigaOS4.x

I'm seeing the same behaviour and crashes from make and gcc (actually I'm pretty sure it's gcc, not make as such).

Thanks for letting me know. I had already planned on trying to get the git tools working at some point in the near future, but I will try and look into this soon.

Hi all,
I just wanted to report that when I try to build contrib I got this error: Performing build in bin/linux-i386/gen/contrib/development/scm/git LINK git-http-fetch There are undefined symbols in 'git-http-fetch': U zlibVersion Makefile:2069: recipe for target 'git-http-fetch' failed make[2]: *** [git-http-fetch] Error 1 mmakefile:377: recipe for target '/root/linux-i386/bin/linux-i386/gen/contrib/development/scm/git/.installed' failed My environment should be clean. I tried to build hosted version with the last version from git repository. Anyone is working on that?

If you mean the native tools - you might need to run "sh" in the normal (amiga-like) shell, or use the icon under developer to launch it correctly. A lot of the (gnu) tools expect a *nix-like environment to work properly. Edit: you might also want to try using a larger stack. I have only minimally tested the native tool chain, however it was working at the start of last year.

This is from memory and so I apprecaite it?s vague but within Aros I make a little HelloWorld console app and a simple Makefile. When I typed make I just got a crash. When I typed make -v it said it was built for ?unknown?.
Like I said, would like to make sure I?ve not anything dumb!!
