You should be able to, but newer versions of Ubuntu might be different. Also, the guide is for compiling AROS rather than running it, so you won't need everything mentioned, but it's not a problem.

We would need to have a "custom" 32bit environment with glue interacting with the 64bit environemnt - work which the devs just arent interested in doing.

If something can be compiled for 32bit AROS - it should be trivial to also build it for 64bit, so it is somewhat pointless.

I was refering to linux/bsd/windows "hosts".

Though, ofcourse AROS 64bit could generate 32bit binaires, so long as you compile binutils/gcc to do so (and provide appropriate headers).

Depends which host OS you use. usually you add .i686 or :i686 to the package name. Google will tell you if you have any doubts...
