Thank you for the help.

Your project is very interesting. I'd like to see it running on a new, open-source Amos too.

I don't know what could be the problem as I'm working on a syntactic analyzer and your program is syntactically OK as it runs on Amos.

Once the parser has been included on the xamos code we could try to find the problem as a lot of debugging has to be done.

I saw your post in the AMOS Factory - and my AMOS project FxBox is coming along nicely, but currently it's got some machine code audio pokes - I did remove everything I thought was amiga specific but it crashes with no further information in XAMOS. I'd love to see this running on XAMOS. I can recode anything that needs changing.

I'm still developing it, and there is a new version that does multi-track and recording coming soon - it's 8bit audio but pretty easy to scale it up - the source is on the floppy.

I have been the last days debugging, documenting and adding more structures.

I hope to start testing with more complex AMOS code soon to validate the analyzer and release it. Then I will include it into XAMOS.

Thank you for the information, I have created an account on the ultimateamiga forum and will ask the question as soon as the account is activated.

The idea is to release the code to the community as soon as it's finished and well documented, even if it has not been merged with Xamos.

Last year the Author of XAMOS passed away:
http://www.amigafuture.de/viewtopic.php?t=37800

It would be great if someone could continue the XAMOS development and turn it into a real functioning programming language.

I first tried using XAMOS on a small programming competition on Moobunny.

I wanted to show how something could be done using a game oriented BASIC on AROS.

But cause of the lack of functionality I switched to a free BASIC on PC under Windows.

Wow, new interest in Xamos!
That's Great News.

I have had fun dabbling with it.

Your lexical and syntactical analyzer for it sounds useful (which I hope you will release to the public), as would the implementation of "FOR TO STEP NEXT" & any other improvements.

Xamos & Amos seems like such natural part of any "Amiga-Like" environment I hope you can continue development beyond alpha 0.29

As for your technical questions, perhaps asking on
http://www.ultimateamiga.co.uk/
can help.

Several AMOS questions

Hello,

More than a year ago, after reading this thread about programming languages for beginers, especially this post from GreenNight talking about XAMOS:

Quote:

I tried it, but it lacked some elements I wanted:

FOR TO STEP NEXT
FOPEN

I don't know what else was missing, it has some nice functions for games but i is far from being ready.

I thought that it could be interesting to have a look into the source code and perhaps, add the FOR TO STEP NEXT structure.
Finally, I forgot the idea until a month ago, when I thought that it could be a good idea to code a lexical and syntactical analyzer for the language (that xamos has not).

Well, at this moment, the analyzer can parse several structures and tell if a simple program is syntactically correct or not.

I have followed the "AMOS Professional User guide" by Mel Croucher and Stephen Hill to try to figure out the grammar of the language but I have several questions and have not found help on the book.

Well, the first one is about the functions as it seems to be several types of functions:

1.- The functionname (parameter,parameter...) where the (parameter,parameter...) part is optional and the number of parameters are optional
This kind of function is, lexically, an identifier.

2.- The functionname parameter parameter,parameter,... as in the following code from page 123:

Do
Cls : Wind Open Rnd(99)+1,1,1,25,5,1
Print "Window number ";Windon : Wait Key
Loop

Where "Wind Open Rnd(99)+1,1,1,25,5,1" is a function of this kind. with two identifiers, and as the function "locate ,number" also is valid, the parameter list can have empty parameters.

I have thought that a grammar for this kind of functions could be

FUNCTION := IDENTIFIER {IDENTIFIER} {EXPRESSION {','{EXPRESSION}}*}

But, should the first parameter (the Open on the example) be treated as an expression?
Could there be more parameters before the parameter list?

Any help is welcomed.
