GTK+ may not be needed afterall for Dillo so I'll hold off for abit on a bounty for GTK+ till the final word is in. For those who haven't tried Dillo, give it a try. I've found this tiny web browser VERY fast. If the Atari-MiNT folks can port it, why can't... :P

Wouldn't a gtk+ to Zune wrapper be a viable option?

Allright. So I do have something to add to this bounty:
- GTK port MUST be implemented as standard AROS runtime library (i.e. LIBS:gtk.library) NOT some link libraries that already messed-up modularity (just look at different icons in preference's use/save/cancel!). - Menus that are part of GTK applications must be implemented as intuition menus, NOT as clickable gadgets inside application windows. - GTK gdagets (if there are standard gadgets) should use intuition and/or Zune preference styles, not some exotic thingy that resides in artificialy created unix directory tree. Anyone has anything to add?

Quote: I doubt that very much. I have to agree with the general tone. It's not simply "you can always use what you want on AROS". Once the library is ported, people will use it, and before you know it, you will be forced to use gtk if you want to use AROS, in much the same way you are foced to use Zune (though I have no problem with Zune). And have you been forced to use, say, DBUS? Please, if you do not have anything concrete to add on description of this bounty, remain out of it. Dammy TeamAROS

OK, adding my two cents where it doesn't belong as always.
I personally don't care what toolkit is used to do whatever in Aros. I like Aros because of how it works. It is fast, responsive etc.. We all know that. If GTK, GKT+ etc can be ported over and made so that the apps appear and feel like native ones, great. I do like the idea of: Quote: "Web browser that conforms to X, Y, Z, and elegantly and seamlessly integrates into AROS and adopts the Amiga/AROS style." How we get there is (somewhat) irrelevant. This way we don't "tie" the devs hands on how any given thing is done. That is the point right? We want a modern web browser, well more modern. How that gets doen is of no real concern to me. There are many options. KHTML, I even think that there is a GTK/KHTML project that was being worked on. It was supposed to make porting KHTML eaiser. Then maybe one of the existing Amiga based browsers can be make to use it for rendering? There are many paths to take grasshopper, choose which is best for you.... I would like to say something about AWeb. I do believe that there are people working on porting KHTML to Amiga and AWeb is, I do believe, planning on using that. Would that not be a "modern" bowser for Amiga? Would Aros be better for helping to achieve that overall Amiga goal? My point is that the AWeb people are working to bring a moden browser to Amiga..why not help them and Aros at the same time? Or, have I missed something? |

It's open source so there's nothing anyone can do to stop you or anyone else from porting it, using it as a base for other software, and so on. However, I truly hope that AROS doesn't drift in this direction. I propose we publically endorse the Safari method for software porting. Safari is based on KHTML, but there is absolutely no KDE feel in it anywhere, it is entirely and totally Mac OS X. If we want a decent browser, that's a proven approach. Since this is a bounty forum, I propose that we form bounties to include the specific functionality we want and not the libraries we want to use. In other words, the destination not the path. For example, "Web browser that conforms to X, Y, Z, and elegantly and seamlessly integrates into AROS and adopts the Amiga/AROS style." How we get there is (somewhat) irrelevant.

Look guys, if you don't like the idea of having a modern web browser, feel free to help in aweb porting or enjoy Amosiac. I highly doubt anyone is going to force you to use anything you do not wish to use in AROS.
This subboard is for strictly for posting and debating proper descriptions of a given bounty's requirement. Please respect this. Dammy Da Jackbooted Moderator

Well that is just too true. It really hurts me (not to say "I hate it") when I see unix style command line args (foo -xfv, bar -R -a -v) instead of neat ReadArgs. I understand that doing it this way it is easier and faster. But just think people - why would I use unix software on AROS? AROS is completely different. It's elegant. It's neat. It's far from being mature and stable. If I want GTK apps running I can run them on Unix or BSD. In AROS I want Intuition/MUI/ReadArgs.
