I agree with Paolone, he has enough work to do without worrying about maintaining different distributions for different hardware projects... Let those guys worry about that, and let him concentrate on one good distribution.

My advise from a very end user ^^ :

for dedicated machines like Imica, the best think should be to have one (for example) Imica Icaros distribution, with settings already installed (drivers, etc...).

In one word, burn a imica aros, install it on the imica, and everything will work without needing to go in prefs and setup menus.

No. I won't do that for any pre-installed system for free (there are boundaries also for good will and addiction to volounteer work), and, besides that, it would be completely useless. "OEM" can easily set up a first system, copy the prefs drawer to a USB key, and replace all the standard settings with the one from the USB key in the next computers they build.

Sure this would be the best, but i'm thinking about a script for AresOne and Imica which is integrated in IcAros- just start it and you are ready to go. I'm not interested to work against Paolone. I will support his work to be a all in one solution. My Pc will come with preinstalled Aros like the Imica too, so only when users reinstall aros they had to start the script(it could be done as a optionwindow after installing IcAros.

this is true. If i bought a Imica i would like to regognize the right driver for it easily. So maybe in Icaros we can have the devices two times one named "imica.device" and the copy named "RTL8xxxx.device" so everyone is happy.

1. As staf said - drivers should be named to reflect the hardware they support (period). Anything else, in the long run, is confusing to developers AND end users.

2. Then you should append the specific version to the name not start renaming them willy nilly to suit your distribution/platform.

I see point 2 negating point 1. In my distribution the geforce7800.hidd and iMica.device clearly reflect the hardware they support. If I had renamed them nvidiaVsomething.hidd and 8168Vsomethingesle.device i bet NOBODY would understand what's the meaning of them.

And, hint: nobody cares about documentation, in the userland.

I had to change the name to the whole distribution, due to the fact that people DON'T READ. They don't even read two lines of text after a title or a download link, I wouldn't ever think they will read docs just to set up a video or a network card.

Fair point, I am sure Nick may be able to help, he is a great coder, and if not will help you find somebody.

I will move subject to another new thread because it must be discussed.
