In case having issues: make sure that you have only your pendrive connected to a usb header and do not use hubs etc. Yes, also remove keyboard, and mice if things are not working.

Try other ports, in case things keeps failing. Note that it sometimes happen that directly after boot mouse and keyboard are thrown off. Just re-plug, gently and slowly.

@Yannickescu: That did it! Setting the USB controller emulation to USB 1.1 made it work. I tried with two Toshiba Transmemory, one an USB 2.0 pendrive, and other an USB 3.0 pendrive, and they worked. They were slow, but were detected automatically and mounted.

I'm fiddling with the emulated ports and the physical ports. The idea was to use and USB 3.0 pendrive in eighter a back USB 3.0 port or a frontal USB 2.0 ports of my motherboard so they were fast enough to run an Icaros installation from them, first inside VirtualBox, and later, if possible, natively.

Still, after reading the manual a bit, I though the the problem was obvious: booting from a liveCD means that the only USB controller loaded was 1.1. Well, checking it I was wrong. There is an USB 2.0 driver and it get's loaded when USB 2.0 is enabled.

The facts:

* Using USB 3.0 emulation in VBox means no devices are detected, because no controllers are detected. No controller are shown with 'PsdDevLister showroot' and no controllers are listed in 'Trident'. Also it breaks mouse integration, yet mouse still works!
Shouldn't it stop working due to be using an emulated USB trackpad? Or is the hub of said trackpad always emulated? And if that is true why does the hub not show? And why does the mouse integration break? Does the mouse get mirrored to the PS/2 or something? Or it is a virtual device?

* Using it with USB 2.0 shows two root devices, one OHCI with the USB trackpad and other EHCI with no devices attached even with the two pendrives plugged and enabled in the emulator. Both checked with 'PsdDevLister showroot' and 'Trident' I can't send you the output of PsdDevLister because I'm using a liveCD and can't save to any other disk. If you really want I can send you screen captures of the root devices, but you can get those yourself using a recent VirtualBox.
I suspect they are emulated as two different hubs, but I don't know how to check that against being only a single USB 2.0 and a virtual USB 1.1 hub for the legacy devices.
Any idea?

I don't know if this is a generic USB 2.0 problem or only with the emulated controller. Now that I can detect the USB an mount it I can install on the pedrive. But I don't know if I could use said pendrive to boot on my physical pc due to all my USBs hubs being 2.0 and 3.0

If you connect a USB device to AROS after it's booted, a requester should inform you that it's recognised.

I'm not sure what you mean by USB storage devices versus emulating a USB disk controller. AFAIK USB drives only differ in how they are formatted, some with a partition table and some without. It shouldn't matter to AROS anyway.

I've read that AROS doesn't work well with recent versions of VBox, but I don't know if it affects USB.

Under VirtualBox you should disable USB2.0 (EHCI) controller in the USB tab for AROS to correctly detect USB devices.

@beezle: Yes, I do. When I do it, I see the pendrive volumes disappear from my Windows 10 (host), before they are detected and mounted by Ubuntu (guest).

The pendrives are formatted in FAT32. I've tried in two sets of Toshiba Transmemory (different controller), a Kingston (a third different controller too), and a TDK which had the same controller than one of the Toshibas.

In all of them they work as USB storage devices, instead of emulating a USB disk controller, so there are no partition tables.

I tried forcing a partition table with both diskpart and GParted. It didn't recognice any of them anyway.

Is there a command line to list the hardware that AROS detect, a la lsusb?

I'm running Icaros 2.1.3 inside a VirtualBox Machine (v5.1.6, the latest one), and when I plug a USB pendrive formated in FAT32 it does not mount it. It doesn't even seem to detect it.

I though it was some VirtualBox USB compatibility, but when I tried to plug a HD dock (an USB SATA controller) with a NTFS disk it worked perfectly.

How do I check if it is failing to detect it, or some mounting problem?

I've tried with several pendrives in several sizes (8,16,32 and 64GB) in Toshiba and TDK brands.
