I have know idea either. I thought by giving you the wireless model it would link to the main model of the laptop itself. I am sure I am wrong at this, but I said earlier that it is EePC700.

Although your intention was good, in practice it moist certainly is one of the most uninformative pieces of hardware mentioned to be able to determine the exact type/model of machine you have.

For most netbooks it was either replaceable or changed on different production runs.

My eee-box comes with 3 variants of wireless NICS and two different audio chipsets _in all possible combinations_ (while the same mentioned hardware was used for other models as well).

It's a bit strange that i would have to tell you what hardware you have, as you can use PCI-tool to determine that.

But, it appears you have an EEE-PC 701 4G (or surf)
- 800 x480 WVGA screen
- 4GB SSD soldered on the mainboard
- no HD
- CPU: Intel Celeron-M ULV 353 @ 0.9 Ghz
- 500 MB DDR2 memory
- Intel GMA 900 GFX with VGA output connector
- Wired 10/100 NIC
- Wireless (802.11 b/g) NIC

Wait, are you saying there will never ever be new releases for icaros after the release of 2.0.3?

No i did not say that. I said that if there is going to be a successor of Icaros 2.0.3 that it will most probably be justified to name it Icaros Desktop 2.1 instead of 2.0.4.

But i am not the maintainer of Icaros Desktop, and paolone could always decide otherwise.

You said icaros development seized.

I never stated as such.

I am using icaros 1.5.3 version and I installed it from an external CD-ROM.

Because of your specs, the only way you are able to do so is to attach an external CD-rom player. AFAIK the only way possible is by using USB. AROS is known to have problems with USB during installation.

Your SSD drive is too small to be able to install the full version of the latest Icaros Desktop, which will cause write errors. But you will not notice it as the Icaros Desktop Installer is not able to detect that there is no free space left and happily informs that everything was installed ok, while in fact it isn't. So you reboot as the installer tells you to and run into all kind of problems that you have mentioned (also in previous discussions).

Also, there is no Icaros Desktop 2.0.4 (and if my guess is correct then there never will be, as the introduced changes would probably justify a 2.1 release).

Wait, are you saying there will never ever be new releases for icaros after the release of 2.0.3? I don't think that is a smart idea. Even Windows which is 800x more stable than icaros and have 1000x more hardware support than Icaros is constantly updated with security, stability patches and even newer version of Windows. We are using Windows 10 now. Icaros being super alpha, buggy, lacks supports, etc is going to stop forever at version 2.0.3 when that version is very unstable, non-functional and require lots of work? WOW! I think that is a super bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad idea. Even MorphOS with way even more niche market than ever before have reached MorphOS 3.9 from earlier version and that is more stable and functional and have better hardware support than Icaros. I didn't know that development of aros and icaros have seized all together...well in that case I will for sure be stuck with icaros 1.5.x as a toy OS for fun and nothing else. Thanks for giving me the updated information.

Either way, you can check things yourself by installing Icaros 2.03 on a Pendrive or SD-Card and boot your computer from that. Also booting the live CD/DVD of Icaros 2.0.3 on your machine offers the same opportunity to check if every part inside your machine is supported and/or working correctly or not.

What is the point? You said icaros development seized.

Out of curiosity (and because i probably forgot to remember, sorry for that), which exact version of icaros 1.5.x did you install and did you install the CD-ROM or the DVD version ?, or did you used a pendrive/sd-card for installation ?

But if it doesn't work on such model it is not a big lose, because I don't think the system itself physical hardware can handle youtube anyways.

The processor and gfx card may be indeed a bit to cramped for that, as well as that machine having very few memory installed by default.

The latter might be troublesome for running the new Oddysey without issues, as this modern browser is more resource hungry.

magorium: A question ... OWB does not means Odyssey Web Browser(OWB) not confusing with Origyn Web Browser?

I'm aware to never trust untrusted sources, but in this case i'm fairly sure that i'm correct

from here:
Quote:

Origyn Web Browser (OWB) is a web browser that was synchronized with WebKit and sponsored by web enabler Pleyo.

and
Quote:

When Sand-labs disappeared MorphOS developer Fabien
Coeurjoly took over
and eventually renamed project to Odyssey Web Browser when it didn't have any original Sand-labs code left.

But a command line "version full" will do the trick as well if not mistaken

That's why one shouldn't call it OWB anymore (it has been for quite a while now), but no matter how hard i try, i always seem to write oddyssee wrong

I am trying to find the model number but I cannot find it...all I can give you is ASUS Eee PC 4G tha tis about it.

I believe it says something like wireless module: Atheros AR5BXB3. If you can help confirm that icaros 2.04 will work hundred percent on this without any problem then I will gladly upgrade my icaros to that version. But if it doesn't work on such model it is not a big lose, because I don't think the system itself physical hardware can handle youtube anyways.

However, I have in the intention in the future to buy one of those big PC ArosOne models with 3D geforce card etc and use this tiny little laptop for fun...or take it to the washroom or so forth.

PS, "I found it. It is called Eee 700 series."

With "EEPC" you mean like the asus eee-pc series ?

Could you please report your exact model number ?

AROS was made for such small netbooks, even got some specific drivers for eee when clusteruk sponsored it because he sold such hardware being fully AROS compatible.

I run AROS without any problems on a eee-box (well, i lied a little there, as the wireless nic isn't supported and i don't have dvi-d output).

Then I need confirmation that a person who owns EePC series laptop and installed icaros 2.0.4 works with internet after formatting the hd and installing and replacing icaros 1.5.x. if there is no confirmation or video showing it is working I will be forever stuck with 1.5.x until I get a different hadware that can handle newer version of icaros.

Is there any chance he can upload new version of the next OWB in aros arhive section for users who own icaros 1.5.x to download and use it?

There will not be a new OWB for icaros 1.5.x.

The current Odyssey browser makes use of features that are only present in ABI-v1, which are kindly backported to ABIv0-on-trunk by deadwood.

ABI-v0, which icaros 1.5.x uses, simply misses those features.

That is what i meant with saying that Icaros Desktop 1.5.x is not forwards compatible with icaros Desktop 2.x
