The first thing that popped up in my mind when reading this was a discussion i had the other day with someone on irc explaining that he had installed AROS on some thin clients. Most of those have internal flash memory (usually around 512 mb/1GB/2GB) which is enough to get AROS going.

Of course such system would usually miss the hd connectors/controller, but there might be something out there that does have such.

fwiw: AROS has an early bootmenu implemented. you just need to press the mousebutton at the correct time (or alternatively add bootmenu to your selected grub option).

That's not the case with the X1000 either, as far as I know. Maybe it has some Firmware customization tricks to look more "Amiga" like, but OS4 is definitely not "burned" into the mainboard, as in, into some ROM chip.

Edit: previously i wrote UBoot, X1000 seems to have CFE, not UBoot (thanks BSzili), but that doesn't change the point.

What you described was basically the classic Amiga early startup alike thing, with maybe the addition of included CLI and simple tools to be available if there's no other boot disk.

You could mimic most of this behavior with:

1., some BIOS with an AROS-boot screen. Some manufacturers produce have boards which allows you to upload a custom boot logo to be shown on power on. I'm pretty sure the PC custom builder market is big enough to get one of these easily. The alternative route would be to keep the BIOS init phase absolutely silent, unless there's some error.

2., use some mildly customized USB mass storage device, hooked on one of the internal USB headers of the mainboard, or even a mini SATA Disk-On-Module, which could autoboot a mini-AROS and provide "AROS insert disk screen", or even early startup and CLI in case there's no other boot device. You could setup your custom BIOS to boot this device first, and from then on what you do is only the matter of what the custom AROS is configured to do on this "boot" disk.

I have no idea how much development would AROS itself need to be useable in this scenario, but otherwise it's not that difficult.

The X1000 motherboard doesn't have any OS4 components built in, just a generic bootloader by Broadcom:

I love to buy a new AROS PC where the firmware of the x86 motherboard have the kernal of aros is burned into it just like X1000 motherboard for example.

If there is no HDD installed into the machine or a bootable disk I will see the aros insert disk screen. If I put the HDD and it is not formatted it will act the same as the Amiga classic would do if the HDD is not formatted. Because the entire kernal or aros is burned into the firmware I should be able to format the HDD via a bootup disk with the necessary commands and make it bootable like the way Amiga does. Then I will enter into AROS DOS CLI screen like AmigaDOS.

However, if I download say icaros 1.1 GB ISO, burn that into a CD then I can boot from that CD and install icaros or aros into the HD and poof I should be able to enter into the OS. If the HD fail I will go back to the insert disk screen of AROS.

Like X1000, the firmware can be updated with newer versions and newer improvement. I will not be able to install any other OS since the firmware is 100% AROS and nothing else.

I was hoping this sort of bounty I an willing to pay the entire one myself each month I make money I will put 60% of may paid cheque for such bounty and I will also buy the hardware ones released.

What do you guys think of such idea and bounty? I would really, really, really love it.

P.S "When I press the right, left mouse button ones I turn the machine on I would be able to enter AROS BIOS and be able to configure the hardware. It will be gray screen or whatever famous AROS interface, it will have the AROS cursor and even AROS windows in case I need to switch between different configuration."
