IIRC when I tried it a few months ago what it did not like is colons in filename. So try to CD to directory containing movie and pass file name only without path.

So big: debugging stuff (gcc -g) not stripped out?

Well, it doesn't work on MPEG2 files. I already tried a couple. I'll have to dig up an old MPEG1 file to try it. Regardless, why is it so big? If it played EVERYTHING like xine or mplayer, I'd understand it being 5M. If it only handles MPEG1, it's laughably oversized. I can make an MPEG1 player in less than 100K.

AFAIK it only supports MPEG video files, but i may be wrong...

Ive just commited an initial port of AMP2 (doesnt actualy work yet) so hopefully it will be sorted soon, and we can start using the new toys =D

What formats does this play? I have yet to find anything it'll play. It just reports an unknown format for anything I've thrown at it.

Also, it only works the first time. If you run it a second time, it causes a segment fault.

well, i also have the 7018 (and i thought SB was the most popular ... looks like i was wrong =o\ )

just using the opportunity, i would say pc-speaker (it should be really simple, compared to a real sound card)

we has a wav2spk (that work under aros) code andhttp://fly.srk.fer.hr/GDM/articles/sndmus/speaker2.html
that i think is enough of info to make it. (im not sure)

regards,

[request]

If i can supply you with a suitable motherboard, would you consider attempting another ac97 codec, or even adjusting the current one, to support that?

from what i can tell so far theres at least 3 distinct flavours of ac97 in use on other systems - 1 supporting the range we do, one that supports the 7018, and a few other chipsets, and a via one (and possibly creatives own aswell.)

by far the most common in use (by the no. of pcs i encounter in a working week ;P) is the 2nd - 7018 compatible, with the via one next - and all the laptops i have seen (totaling around 8 this week) used the 7018 driver also.

If you are willing, i am able to provide a board of each flavour (sis730/7018 - which doesnt boot aros atm - like we discussed in irc, and a via chipset board)

sis7018 doesn't work, because it is totally different chipset (allthough it's name is so close to sis7012 ;)). For the same reason there is no via support :)

Michal - you ARE the man

I will try and find some suitable boards to try it on ASAP =D

btw - why _exactly_ doesnt the sis7018 work if you know?

would it be hard to write a second AC97 driver for other cards that work similarly, but different, to the ones supported by your current one?

Hello.

Beeing curious and asked by CoolCat, I've tried to enable AHI sound in our SDL library. And guess what? It works!

For testing purpouse, I've compiled our play application (movie player) with sound enabled. It may be found here:

http://home.tu-clausthal.de/~misc/play

Please cvs-update SDL and have fun.
