Change -:

Compatible with bsdsocket.library (IPv6 Can use an extended API.)

To -:

API must remain source Compatible with AmiTCP/IP 4.x bsdsocket.library. New functionality should be exposed via existing API's (e.g Miami.library) or new API's where appropriate.

So, based on Michele's suggestions, does anybody have specific recommendations how the bounty terms should be altered or do you prefer them to stay as-is?

Thanks, I'll look into it!

I'm working on a lwIP based bsdsocket.library. It should have IPv6/IPv4 support when I'm done with it.

About the TCP/IP Stack Update bounty, I don't know how feasible it is to edit the description, but IMHO it lacks an important reference to clarify which bsdsocket.library is meant. The original and mainstream one is, I think, the one that came with AmiTCP/IP 4.x and higher. Therefore I would maybe clarify the meaning of "Compatible with bsdsocket.library" with a specific example, like:

Compatible with bsdsocket.library (IPv6 Can use an extended API.)
->
Compatible with bsdsocket.library (at least as in AmiTCP/IP 4.x; IPv6 can use an extended API)

Note that AmiTCP/IP version 4.x was released in 1994. While I don't think it would add any pressure to the bounty to mention a 20-year old version, I see a benefit in that this clarification would avoid the misunderstanding of doing work taking as an inspiration the even older 3.x version.

As a specific test case, I would include in the list "support for WaitSelect() and asynchronous socket events" (as handled by the original bsdsocket.library). This would not be an additional requirement to the bounty, but a clarification to mention a basic and often overlooked Amiga-specific feature of the original library, compared to some Unix-ish counterparts.

Do any of you have any thoughts about this?

Initially when considering the API changes I had wanted it to be specifically for ABI v1 - the reason being, that while we want to keep the AmiTCP v4 API - we want to remove the hardcoded IPv4 address usage in the calls. Doing this "may" cause problems for existing binaries, but then again it may not be something that causes an actual issues (havent investegated to that extent). I have tried locally changing the calls to use address-type-agnostic forms and it worked at source compatable level fine. I would be interested in Michele's opinion on this.

edit: yes - it needs to perhaps be clear it is compatibility with the AmiTCP socket implementation and not a generic *nix like socket API. Any new features needed should be exposed via a new API (library or whatever..). This is something I had to push when Sonic worked on AROSTCP long ago because he was happy to just add/change the existing API - which is why it now exposes both AmiTCP _and_ Miami compatibility layers to have all the features available.
