It's possible that the emulators don't even use PnP. If you start off by just using a fixed address (like the PC keyboard and timer drivers do for example), it would be fairly easy to add ISA-PnP and/or PCI support later on.

Thats what I wanted to know. But then there is no reason to use the PCI subsystem but possibly the isapnp.resource Pavel submitted some days ago.

One of the motivations for this bounty was that the driver could be used on various emulators. I don't know about other emulators, but QEmu's virtual SB16 card isn't PCI.

I'm not sure about the bounty requirements, but there have been isa AND pci cards that were sb16 or compattible produced by both creative lab and hordes of others (VIBRA-16 being the most common)

This bounty is a great idea, because sb16 or compattible cards are a very easy to find item, and some older motherboards also have sb16 compatible onboard sound.
I hope someone does this driver, it would make it alot easier to get a native aros pc working...

but the SB16 and SBPro had an ISA interface and all the compatible PCI cards I know are decoding those adresses some kind of hardwired. You don't need to configure them first through some PCI config space registers.

That would kind of destroy SB16 compatibility anyway. The card has to make sure the registers are there for software banging the hardware directly so that it is also working with old DOS software for example.

Later SB16 compatible chips were ISAPnP and the first SB16 PCI chips were incompatible to the old interface.

So how is the bounty ment ? For the old ISA Interface or the newer PCI style interface ?

Shouldn't you get all information by enumerating PCI information and looking for correct vendorid/productid?

At least that is what I saw in AC'97 AHI driver.

Hi,

I've got a question regarding this bounty.

Soundblaster cards are usually found at mostly fixed 'ISA' addresses (eg. 220h). How should the access be done through the PCI subsystem ?

Compatible cards are almost always looking at these addresses for soundblaster compatible access.
