It is actually not that strange, especially if you have been 'messing' around. The router software usually gets upset when you attempt to assign a static ip address on the machine while the router has dhcp enabled.

Perhaps and for future reference: always make sure the interface is up on the machine itself (ifconfig -a). As long as that is up and you are able to use it's loopback (ping 127.0.0.1), then you should be able to ping itself (in case dhcp the router will assign an ip address otherwise use it's static address for that, e.g. usually ping 192.168.0.x).

If that works, but you still have no working internets, then this happens usually due to network related issues, e.g. router all getting messed up internally.

Remember that PCI tool is your friend to identify hardware, and can be used to search in the hardware compatibility list or used to search the forums to see what other users tried to make it work (or determine the specific piece of HW does not work (well) with AROS).

Oh, as an additional hint: most people have a mobile phone or tablet that can used to make a screenshot of output/results

( Although that does not matter much anymore now, since you got networking working you can transfer the output/screenshots over to another machine ).

Well that did it! Boy do I feel like a dummy now. Apparently, I just needed to reboot the router for some strange reason. Once I rebooted the router and the aros box OWB works! Next up, getting sound working and loading software. Its nice to come home again! Thanks guys!

P.S. I have not tried rebooting the wifi extender/router here. Trying that also.

I think you may be right about the router not allowing static ip, so I changed to automatic. Not sure if it matters, but I am in my basement and using a wifi range
extender with 4 regular network ports on it -

I have tested this box, wifi works as does wired networking on both windows, osx, and linux boxes in my
basement here. Apparently AROS does not like this box.

I can't really take this whole AROS machine upstairs to check with the main router, so I am pulling my hair out here trying to figure out the problem. Switched to automatic in ipmode and on intelpro100 device.

Ifconfig -a returns :

Ping 127.0.0.1 returns okay.
When I try to ping 192.168.1.1 (my main router ip) I get No route to HOST.
Same for trying to pin 192.168.0.1 Again, no route to host...

I am unsure how to access the wifi range extender/router here in my basement. I will try and do that once I have found the manual. Any help in the meantime would be awesome. Its terrible to have an AROS box all set up, nice video (NVIDIA 6200) fast machine but not internet to further test the system, access aminet and so on...

Just some generic pointer in case you haven't thought of it (already).

- It is only possible to have one single interface active on AROS.
- when you have selected your correct driver, and are sure all other setting are correct but things do not work, then do a reboot (a fresh start always seems to trigger different results).
- setting a static ip (as you seem to have done), only works if your router allows it (e.g. enabling dhcp on router usually conflicts).
- Setting a static dns can also conflict with the settings of your router. some routers incist on using their dns 'server' (in case it has any).

ifconfig -a should at least show you that the NIC is found and valid. If that's the case, then your usually half way home.

Use ping 127.0.0.1 to see if your localhost is up. Double check with ping 192.168.0.22 (or whatever ip address your router has otherwise given you).

Use ping 192.168.0.1 to see if you can ping your local network (you should always be able to ping your router).

No further help posssible unless reporting back what _you_ see, as i/we can't see it from this side of the monitor

So please report what ifconfig -a shows for you, what ping 127.0.0.1 does for you as well as ping 192.168.0.22 and ping 192.168.0.1. If that isn't working for you, then your router settings (staic vs dynamic, dns settings) are important to know as well. Have you got mac filtering enabled on your router for instance ?

I was very careful to buy an intel pro 100 network card. I know from the past AROS recognizes and uses this.

When I original install, it was using another network driver prism I think... So it network settings I load the intelpro100 driver and choose automatic.

Ping www.google.com nothing - unknown host www.google.com

Okay googled for answers here, found ifconfig -a then ping again. Still nothing.

Switch to manual. Its been a LONG time since I had to manually set #'s for a network but I think its correct.

Set dns to 8.8.8.8 Set ip for 192.168.0.22

Not sure the ranges of my router... so I chose a low 22 #.

for netmask left default 255.255.255.0

Gateway 192.168.0.1

Now it just takes a long time before ping returns unknown host. Same problem in OWB.

I'm desperate to get this working! Please help me set these addresses correctly? Been away from AROS for a long time... I really need this box working with networking!
