Please be aware of a couple of things:

I do not have any experience myself with such setup as yours and my knowledge on (amiga) monitors is limited.

In case you expect your aga machine to display actual widescreen resolutions like e.g. full-hd, then i can tell upfront that aga isn't capable of doing so. It would really require a graphics-card. see also here and here for the standard supported resolutions for the chipsets/modes.

However, it should be possible to at least 'invent' some syncrates that let those resolutions that are possible with stock aga, to display on your monitor. As long as your monitor supports switching/detecting to some standard vga modes, this shouldn't be a problem. In case you have a modern monitor you should be able to tweak on that part as well, and/or the monitor is smart enough to show to something (more) acceptable by 'pumping-up' smaller resolutions.

Also be aware, that when you start playing with making your own custom drivers, that (at least back in the day) it could damage your monitor. Nowadays, monitors should simply put themselves into out-of-sync mode, but i wanna make sure you are aware

Also, most demo's/games/bootmenu requires support for the 15khz mode, if your monitor doesn't support that, it would fail on such occasions when resolution is switched. see also here

I am unaware of changes/improvement in 3.9 in that regards, as my latest kick/wb usage was 3.1.

Now for some stuff:
- pathetic drivers (some higher refresh rates)
- MPP (Some technical background and tuned drivers)
- MonitorTestHD (advertises as testing hd resolution).
- Moned (change syncs of monitor)
- Mon1438Hack (some background info + monitor hack)
- MonSync (Change H/V sync values, MonEd cannot)

In the hope it was (somewhat) usefull.

hi there, thanks,

no, not solved yet.

yes, I'm looking for a monitor driver (for stock A1200/AGA) that allows me to display workbench on my 16:9 monitor, and, yes, I was thinking about some 'tweak'-tool, too. (I remember playing around with sync rates etc. from my old Amiga + CRT-monitor days.)

can you point me to a widescreen-monitor-driver file?
I'll check my monitor's capabilities.

thanks for suggesting BetterWB, I'll take a look at that.

regards,
Ro

Hi roMancer,

u got this solved already ?

Your question is pretty staightforwarded, up till the point you mentioning aga.

Aga (in this context) suggests you want the aga (supported) resolutions to be displayed in wide-screen format, which is contradicting.

Did you meant you want to be able to display your workbench on a wide-screen monitor ? if so, then this depends on the monitor driver.

I did a search last week, and it seems there are some widescreen monitor drivers out there, but if they work totally depends on the capabilities of the physical monitor itself.

Besides that, there are some utilities on aminet to be able to 'tweak' monitor drivers.

You also might have a look at betterwb (or other classic distro's that usually comes accompanied with extra drivers).

in the hope it's usefull,
