There isnt a filemanager "in" wanderer - Wanderer IS the filemanager.

The AROS DirOpus program is based on very old sources and could use a good reorganizing and refreshing. Besides Wanderer, there's also Workbook and Scalos "workbench" program replacements under development currently for AROS. Both have helped find bugs and missing features from AROS's workbench-internals...

Using Snapshot->All will make it save settings of a Window, so you can have it show all files, etc. if you chose to. This can be done individually per window for any path (ie. a mix of however you like it, not just either/or). As for opening a shell at the path of the currently active window, this is actually the default behaviour and has been for years.

I can sympathize with this, I only use dopus in case of extreme emergency, which is almost never. There is an modern open source file manager being worked on in Amigaland, but I think it uses Reaction, so it would not be very compatible with Aros.

Anyway, as I understand it, there is no one currently working on Wanderer. So, I predict Mazze will tell us "code it yourself"

I am not familiar with Scalos, but when it becomes available, I hope it will be helpful in this area.

IMHO AROS needs a modern filemanager.

The DirOpus for AROS looks like it was designed for Kickstart1.3, Menus, Buttons are not made with Zune they doesn't even look like proper intuition Buttons. The placement of the buttons is quite strange and selection of a volume or drive needs to much mouseclicks.

There is a filemanager in Wanderer that might be equal to Workbench's Filemanager from AOS3.5/3.9 but there is still a lot of things missing:

1. Default setting is:
View:
[x] Icon View
[_] Detailed View
[_] Show All Filers

I would like to have:
View:
[_] Icon View
[X] Detailed View
[X] Show All Filers

Maybe some people like it the other way, the last setting should be saved automatically or without opening another window or tool (no prefs needed)

Opening a shell window with a path set to the selected Window of the filemanger should be possible via this filemanger.
I would like to have the menu for this action near the mouse pointer (remeber Birdy) or on top of the folder window, but not on top of wanderers screen, that's to far away.
I want to watch a video or browse a text by clicking to a file and chosing a tool from a menu.

Having a list of the last 5 executables and the last 5 folders in a pull down menu in wanderer should speedup GUI handling.

---

And I want to have all this integrated into Wanderer and not on an external program. When Amiga went bankrupt, the handling of the Workbench was stuck somewhere between Windows3.11 and Windows95.
Something like Windows95/Windows2000 needs less mouseclicks to start an application as you would need it on the Amiga or AROS.
