Everyone want their hardware to work with AROS, that is natural, and of cause ASUS EEE PC could be a nice alternative. That said for the moment I would focus on getting something that is working right now. As I said in the tread "new hardware" you could be up and running for under 200$
For me AROS is about getting cheap hardware that can run (amiga like) system. And that can use prosessors, ram ect. that is far supperior to what any amiga, or amiga clone has ever seen. This is what killed the amiga, no new hardware, and the hardware you could get where expensive, and most of the time crap compared to win.. So let's not have that prob... anymore. If you need faster ram or cpu go out and buy it This can also make AROS an alternative for running cpu hungry progs.. We also have to face that Windows is here to stay, so use both OSes on the same computer. Just make that windows computer compatible with AROS. Then we should have this: pci-express gfx-card, one network-card and one sound-card that is on the market right now, so people don't have to get it used, and don't have to be a bootleneck when using win... You don't get breathtaking gfx performance with Radeon x300 in Windows Focus on a browser for god sake. That is what AROS realy need!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe the bounty should be split. One to get AROS booting and generally working (gfx, disk access etc..). And then a bounty for individual drivers (wireless, better gfx, lan, sound etc..).
Just a thought

Hi everybody....
I've just bought a EEE PC. Why? Because I want to mess around and try and get AROS booting on it. A kind of summer project, if you will. However: 1) The bounty never said there'd be a free EEE for taking on the bounty! 2) there's waaay too much required for the bounty. Let me elucidate slightly. First off, I've never written drivers before. Not proper ones anyway. I wrote a program which I imaginitively called AmiTV for supports the Bt8x8 and CX2388x TV card chipsets under OS 4, but no OS 4 supporting hardware can support the TV cards properly and the SDK is way out of date now, so I can't work on that. Now I also know my time restraints. Therefore I can't officially take on the bounty unless I know I can do something with it. This means I can't actively assign myself to the bounty. This means I can't apply for the free EEE anyway. Now usually, this'd be fine. But this particularly bounty is really task-heavy because of the free EEE. This makes the bounty somewhat impractical for me. For instance.. the GMA 900. That's a full media processor, MPEG 2, 3D graphics etc. etc. I can probably do the i910 frame buffer, and likely the rest in time, but that's a real headache, and most of all it's not necessary to get the EEE booting AROS. Surely there should be a solution for this? As it stands it's just way too much for one bounty and a lot more than is necessary to get what is really required - i.e. AROS working smoothly in its basic form on an EEE. Any suggestions?

ASUS
Let the porting begin! AROS will fly on this thing! Think of all the benefits for AROS if we get a fixed hardware base with alot of users! The eee PC could do that!

I thought that promise was already confirmed =) Anyway, I completely agree with you: it's an insane task for a single person only, but's necessary. If the bounty gains a reasonable amount od money, a few people can divide the earnings between themselves and speed up development. Anyway, from this bounty we'll gain some new driver which may be spared on different machines.
