Did I say YOU (both) weren't doing anything except moaning? I said it's better these discussions should belong to developers and made elsewhere (AROS-dev mailing list). Otherwise the best you'd expect is attracting here just complaints, trolls and naysayers of every kind, bringing up a discussion that would lead to nowhere.

FYI I have my own ideas about ABIv1 I already expressed in the right place. Repeating the same here wouldn't be of any help to anyone.

And I was not saying that. What I was saying is that it only makes sense to me to discuss this topic again if I know some developer will actually do something with it.

you can certainly not say I am just whining and not doing anything. The same for Wawa who is one of the few doing something and am emotionally involved. I am always defending Aros in the public when there are claims that there is no progress and that it has no concept but the Aros devs lack of communication really makes it difficult for me and others.

Propably I was too long in normal world to understand this community :(

The reason for mentioning the private discussion is not that I think it belongs only to the happy coder's club but that I just want to be sure to have somebody with actual coding interest before spending my time on it. Otherwise I think it will just again be a lot of words produced without any concrete action.

No. Unless you're doing this in the AROS-dev mailing list, preferably after having made some good commitments.

Sorry for being harsh, but although AROS is a open-source "community-driven" project, I agree with Fats when he prefers to keep 'private' discussions and decisions which should belong to coders only. After all, it's all about their free time we'd be talking about, and in order to do this... well... I guess we should be at least among of them. Don't you agree?

AROS-EXEC, btw, is a great source for users' issues, dreams and expectations: developers who wish to look at the situation, can perfectly see what's said here and make their own mind about them. There's really no need, IMHO, to bring up discussions about our perfect ways to AROS. I am even afraid some developer might consider them irritating.

By the way, this was a great topic about AROS weekly progresses, before someone driven it to this off-topic discussion.

staf, i dont want to press you into it, but could you perhaps explain your concept of aros development as oposed to what currently its course is, in a new thred and in a way that a non-coder might understand to an extent?

No, I don't feel like doing that at the moment. It's IMHO best that the people who are actually doing and enjoying AROS development ATM are in the driver's seat.

But people who look up my stance on .bss sections in shared libraries and on recent abiv0-on-trunk development in the AROS-dev archives should I think be able to connect the dots.

I am open to have a private discussion on this matter with a developer who actually wants to do development and wants some guidance.

im not looking aros close, but arix that was mentioned and was an abandoned project afaik

regards,

i dont think it is (officially) abandoned, but it shares the fate of projects that have too high goals while not having enough own dynamics, especially user/developer-wise to keep them progressing in a self-sustainable manner. this imho applies especially to closed source amiga-like projects, but also staying open source i think it would be right and helpful to keep in mind and discuss, how to sustain the steady development.

being 68k user i have obviously different interests and expectations as yours but would like to understand those as far it is possible without trying to disrupt anything.
