Olaf...
If a user wants a replacement, he can install it.
Wanderer is used in aros (nightlies).

Whatever... antonP nailed it.
Instead of opening a new project why not support and work on what we have.

there is not much confusion :)

Aros Vision is using Magellan
Icaros Desktop is using Magellan
AspireOS will in future (as I understand it) use Magellan too

Only Pascal with Broadway is using Wanderer right now

@Kalamatee

I appreciate your work and do not want to talk down your work but current Wanderer is certainly not the best desktop on market. Perhaps Wanderer 2 will improve things and then distribution maintainer will offer it certainly as a second option and support it again.

Why put energy and time to develop Workbook to become more usable
(and still minimalistic) instead of make a stripped down, minimalistic version of Wanderer (and fix bugs)? In this way Wanderer-development will benefit in general and for all platforms (x86, 68k and ARM).

Just my opinion: Wanderer is for me the face of AROS and should be the main-focus in this aspect. Many people from the "outside" are already confused with different AROS-Distros running on different CPU-architectures, we should?t make it more confusing by adding different GUIs. Just my two cents of course...

I have no issue with people using a workbench replacement of choice - but I agree that Wanderer is (and always should be) the "de facto" for AROS, as Workbench itself was on AmigaOS. Distro maintainers are still of course totally free to decide what they use, but I find a lot of this discussions detract from getting AROS developed in favour of someone's preferred 3rd part Application - and certainly don't help motivate.

As I've just posted shortly ago on my blog, there's still some way to go before my current w.i.p wanderer is usable (seehttp://kalamatee.blogspot.co.uk/)

One of the main advantages it should bring are that most of the existing "bloat" will now be external from the main wanderer code and use its plugin API, so that a bare wanderer with minimal config should use considerably less memory (*). Tied in with the changes to use separate threads for most IO operations, it should give a much more responsive feel.

* - and disk space.

Where are the bubbles? All popped away : )
This is what I tried to say....

But now to you : )
I would really fall in love if you could fix the wanderer bugs (snapshooting and wallpapers) somewhen in 1st quarter 16... This would fit my own no schedule and rocking way of things

Edit:
@olaf
If you like I can put a minimal wanderer floppy image together ...

Workbook with the features mentioned above would still be minimalistic? Or just a second Wanderer.

IMHO - it would start becoming just as bloated (if not more) than wanderer, since it still relies on using MUI to implement the functionality and so brings the requirements of it. Also most of the issue is the configuration people use - big colourful backdrops etc. eat up memory.

I can remember that we had a boot floppy for i386... This fitted on a "floppy" including wanderer

Just resize the default icons to 32x32 and 4colors and it is minimalistic .

Yep ; )
But seriously while dopus is still loading I can already launch a app on wanderer...
Boot sequence takes longer... (Whining on high level : ) )

So all I need is a fixed Abi v1 wanderer or a highly enhanced workbook ; )
Please add wallpaper support to workbook bounty

you hate it for the "outdated design" (whatever you mean) or more propable for the work and time you would need to invest to configure it?

See my last paragraph it says "if than yeah"

67% like it ; ) this is great

I dislike Magellan for its outdated design and for the waiting time it adds to every boot.

Aros+wanderer=instant boot
Aros+Magellan = instant loading time

This is all : )...
