This whole "custom chip" is a joke. Its nothing more than a glorified basic stamp microcontroller, though with more i/o lines and alot more power.

Essentially, its like adding a bunch of basic stamps to a pc then calling it custom chips. Yes its reprogrammable and yadda yadda, but custom chips? No its off the shelf crap added to an already dying archetecture that is POWER PC.

This X1000 thing will be a big letdown, mark my words, make a note of it.

Both morph and AOS have to port to x86 or they will die a slow death, mark my words, make a note of it.

As for AOS users...
Finally they are getting dual core but who cares when everyone else will soon be using 8 and 16 core machines.
They will never catch up.

Aros needs smp and multicore support, uae integration finished with joystick, net and sound and ALOT of bug
fixes, then alot more applications.

If uae integration gets finished with joystick and sound, and the system becomes more stable for average users, AROS use will explode, especially because the average user won't want to spend 2k US for a decently fast machine to run it. Actually, this new hardware (and the high pricetag) will drive more amiga fans to AROS. Mark my words, make a note of it.

Okay I'm getting off my soapbox now.

Steven

IMO, the label of "custom chip" was pure genius for Hyperion to label a fairly silly addition to the mobo. I guess they learned their lesson with do nothing chip on SAM440, they made it "magical" to buy. My guess this is a existing mobo somewhere they are licensing out and could only explain it by marketing purposes.

Chasing after the X1000 won't help AROS. What will help AROS is finishing the port to EFIKA-MX. I expect the X1000 now to run close to $2000 USD which will contrast nicely for a EFIKA-MX (since it's not x86 based, hard to dredge up the Windows excuse in not buying it) netbook.

Ok, feeling a bit glum now that the new Amiga is out. Be glum no more, please nip over to this thread and have a read.

Right if it can be done on the SAM it can be done on Aros and iMicas

Come on you lot time to get your thinking caps on, this would be very cool and would enable us to join the party especially if you have an iMica compatible netbook with the USB XMos board.

Oh, and do not think I am falling for all the hype about speed, but this will be a great boost for the Amiga community.

Come on you got to love the fact we could be there first.
