I dont think you understand what i am getting at...

coLinux needs a full *nix environnment to provide ... u *nix enviroment - which AROS "NIX" hosted runs on top of (which is what your getting at).

I am refering to what is holding up a "TRUE" win32 port - ie lack of understanding on how the threading works in win32. coLinux possibly uses the win32 threading/signaling or equivalent to provide the same functionality under "*NIX" using the parent os. If so we can look at how the linux parts are translated to ee what needs done for aros ...

The other components should fall into place pretty easily once the scheduling side is addressed.

That would definitely be the ultimate LiveCD version of AROS to make available to the general public.

does it worked? :quoi:

***** EDITED ****
http://unit.aist.go.jp/it/knoppix/colinux/index-en.html

im begin to have weird ideias.... =oP

would be possible to have in one cd a minimal linux system, aros, colinux and cygwinX? ... if yes, we would have native and hosted (linux and win) at once on one single cd!

im not the right person for the job, but maybe in some madness state of mind i can play with it! :rasta:

Just readhttp://www.colinux.org/wiki/ section "coLinux Virtualization & Administration" how to setup colinux, networking, XVNCServer and samba. Then download aroshosted and run it. Takes about 40min but it's worth it.

Why not use colinux? (www.colinux.org) I use it for running aros and some other stuff in windows machine. It's stable and you can use samba to share files with your "Aros distro" and windows. With ultravnc even gfx is fast enough.

Maybe I should make filesystemimage which has only aroshosted as X desktop :)

If you have AROS running in coLinux, you should probably make a "HowTo Setup AROS in coLinux" article. A number of people here have been trying to get AROS running in coLinux for awhile and would love some help.

Ok... Perhaps colinux might be more what I want.

So, I've downloaded and installed it and it runs ok. I know virtually nothing about linux. Can you give me some hints:

Doesn't aros need xwindows to run? - the colinux website says x windows is not supported...

How do I get files to and from win32 and colinux?

Cheers, Paul.

would be nice if people (devs) would start an effort to get aros compiled under win32, then perhaps get a propper hosted win32 env going.

I tried to build the native iso using dev-cpp and mingw but ran into a few problems with the configure scripts, and collect-aros (ignores that wait.h isnt found, and tries to use functions that arent available)

I also did a quick splash screen for use on a win32 hosted port if ever we get one - Resized Image

(the dark grey areas are meant to be transparent )
