Hey Marlov... if any of my "prof" Windows 3.1 apps would run on Windows XP i would have saved a lot of money.
There are not many big 3.1 programs running on XP. And to be realistic... i am already using Windows 8 dev-prev. Same on OS X. PPC support (rosetta has been killed). Even on 10.7 some 10.5/10.6 apps (intel only) don't work without patching. Same on Linux. Same on AmigaOS itself.

Consistency is the word here. I hate Windows, but if you want to run a program made ??for Windows 3.1 on Windows XP, you can possibly do, and that I call consistency despite years That's what I want for Amiga called AROS or whatever.

@Marlov
That's a somewhat convoluted perspective. AROS doesnt do it for you cos it requires you to recompile software to run it natively unless you want to use emulation? Yet Winuae is great? Does anyone else see the irony here? :) That aside, I do agree that being able to utilise 68k a little more easily would be great. Janus works well enough as a variation of UAE, even if the cohenerncy mode is pretty heavy on resources. This is why I wrote a bunch of scripts rather than using coherency. Point being, you can indded run 68k apps almost as though theyre native even without coherency, it just requires a little effort (half hour for a template and testing, then a minute for each new app). Incidently you *can* run amigaos apps on aros without emulation if you use the 68k version. No system or os can run old amiga os software without some form of emulation apart from the 68k amigas themselves. |

Marlov, if you really want those old commercial apps as native apps, I'd suggest starting up an effort to either actually open source them (even if they're written in assembler) or to create clones with whatever was their best features that makes them so interesting to you. Then the new open apps could support new technologies or features that weren't considered back when the amiga software was last updated.

Without support for old Amiga apps, that apps that makes Amiga different from other choices, AROS its only a new OS, nothing more. When anyone with AROS installed ,can install an execute DPaint 5.2, SceneryAnimator 4.0, Lightwave 3.5, and long long etc of marvellous apps directly without emulation, within AROS, AROS can be THE system for AMIGA true lovers, until now, AROS its only a promise , nothing more. I love Winuae for that, i can still use old and beloved Amiga apps. Bye.

@ edwberger
Thanks. Money = motivation. How can one make money with Aros? It think using Aros is easier than Linux, in some ways. Windows = Money = Support
