That sounds like a great 3rd party programming conversion product. I really hope they stay with the current path and away from MorphOS/OS4 compliance. This product doesn't need to go down that road, to provide a decent set of OS services..
I think even the original AmigOS team would love the design of AROS and what has been done (staying it's own product).

well,
in the cvs tree there is svg files so the way of convert it to png with info is already maked (i dont know if svg files would acept extra data)...i really didnt miss vector icons, just a resize option for diferent screen resolutions would be fine, maybe animated gif icons would be funny....but who knows!!! about themes there ishttp://www.flux.utah.edu/~stack/betty/download.html it is nothing at all, but it changes the title window bar...that in aros i havent see yet, and as i saw some wip in theming maybe could interest someone! BTW: how is the surf overthere i saw that two months ago there was a huge swell in Jaws...how jeaulos i am...Hawaii is the golden dream! Aloha! =o) |

Agreed. It would probably be simpler as well, until you started to code the limitations -- like blocking animation and so on. Still, I think it's the way to go. Of course, if it's datatype driven, where exactly is the data stored? Maybe make the .info file actually a .tar file with an explicit format -- two files in there -- the first file is the media file -- like a .png or .jpg or .mng or .svg file, and the second holds tooltype infomration. And just replace the .tar with .info.

Animated icons are the way things are moving. Look at the icons for save games in game machines like the PS2 - animated. Making the OS use datatypes on icons is simple and allows for the future. ANY static picture could be used for an icon, not just IFF or PNG as is supported now. You want SVG icons? Just make an SVG datatype. Don't want animation in your icons? Go to the Preferences and turn it off... or turn it on if you like animation (no animation should probably be the default).
The whole point is not to limit yourself by making a bloated icon handler that only understands certain hardcoded types... just use the datatypes. That is what they were for - allowing any application to use any supported format. It was decades ahead of it's time. We should think ahead just as the original Amiga programmers did. One day, we'll all be using 10 GHz 64 bit CPUs with real-time photo-realistic graphics cards. AROS would already be ready for it.

Vector icons would be great, being resolution-independent. SVG might be a better choice though, a vector image and animation format. Seehttp://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/ I see just now that they have a SVG Tiny specification, which might be great for icons. Again, I'd recommend storing a bitmap version in the .info file and reading from there until the size changes, as rendering vector images is quite CPU-intensive. However, I'd rather not see full animations in icons, generally. Regards,

Vector-themes would be nice too :)
For distribution. Rendering it to bitmaps on selection of the size(theme preferences) and using those for display might be a good idea though. Regards

No, you are not. So I don't ignore you ![]() Quote:
Icons, as mentionned here earlier, are PNG's (simply renamed to .info) make us another theme, please! The more the better. You could change image-buttons gadgets aspect too (save, use, test, cancel pictures for prefs are in System/Themes/Mason/Images/Gadgets/ and are PNG's too), I think (_i think_) their paths are hardcoded in apps for the moment, so feel free to modify them to fit your taste, with the same paths and filenames. I made some tweaks in GUI's as shown here. Speaking of Wanderer Tools (delete, info, execute...), they are WorkbenchObjects and independant files. You can replace existing tools by yours. I notice on the AROS live CD in the system directory there are a bunch of themes including a 1.3 theme. Wasn't there a themes prefs file for Aros on earlier builds? If I am just imagining this, well ignore me. But I'd love to know how to easily change icons and gadget themes for wanderer.
