thank you! It would be a real nice feature! I know some update mechanisms - and building a component list within the AROS build system may be the most reliable way to update AROS online or offline. The build system is also aware of "last changed" informations of the source files, so it is in a good position to decide if a component needs an update against the installed version or not, or if the component is new to the version. It would also be necessary if a certain file is a changeable file (configuration file) or a fixed system file. I don't think there is an easy way to do this outside AROS itself. Maybe for my wish to come real it is time to introduce a package management in AROS!? I know OS4 has one... but not how it works at all. regards Manu

Maybe a Script file with AROS-TCP stuff:

SYS: ALL QUIT 1 __________________________________________ Just for fun but any Network aware script language can actually achieve that kind of stuff. Depends a lot on AROS-TCP (AMITCP) inner works of the commands... But actually it's possible to do that - requires a lot of work though on the server part... Also a fault proof script is very difficult to achieve. Of course a good C developed Network transfer program is more convenient for this stuff... On the current Alpha stages of AROS I don't know if it's a very good idea.

Hi,
just one question: Do you plan to introduce an update function to newer ISO/binary builds of AROS? It would be great to have the VM updated on newer AROS versions. I do not even know, if it would be possible to make an update. Maybe the AROS distro needs to add a kind of "content directory" file that contains all updateable or new components so they can be easily copied into existing installations... regards Manu
