I don't understand the PPC guys... They don't target the x86 because for them it's a dead end as they say about BeOS and others OSs, at the same time they expect one to buy a PPC machine underpowered just to run their OS, *when* most of us already have x86 and AROS at some extent. Meaning by that you have to spend 1000s of € just to run a piece of software?

What could it mean to them? Can it mean that when AROS is advanced enough they'll fail because there's 'an Amiga like OS' in x86 which will hinder their OSs too?

Will they stop developers from porting their programs over to AROS so that wont happen?

I fail to see why instead of a costum ppc box they hadn't went instead for a x86 solution... cos of the drivers? One Costum x86 would solve that, altough I don't think that's a problem in itself. AROS runs on most of the boxes I tried it at and the graphic drivers are the same problem for them all...

I don't understand their fear

Sadly there are way too many talented Amiga devleopes that would rather spend time arguing over MorphOS/AmigaOS4. Wait years and years, missing deadline after deadline. Taking money for t-shirts and discounts that no one ever got. Yes these people would ranther stand on their tiny little soapbox screaming "My Amiga like system is the best or will be when it gets here." rather than help out Aros. Not a whole lot of Amiga zelots even like the idea that Aros exists because it might take away some of Amiga business. You can't take business away from something that has been dead for years. From the look of the recent KMOS speach it doesn't even look like they are going for any type of Desktop system anyway, at least one that someone makeing less than $100,0000.00 per year could afford.

I agree with u.
Amiga on PPC is expensive. Aros is cheap.
If only some years ago all focus on Aros, now Aros should be a complete OS.
Amiga community is loosing time with projects will fall.
Aros will live. But it needs help.

Linux is a madness sometimes.
Windows is an ocean pretty to see over, but a sea of shit under.

Amiga è the simplest system I never used over and under.

Ah! I stand corrected.

I couldn't agree more Carmelo. I have long felt that the Amiga community (most or as a whole) would be better off forgeting AmigaOS4 and the silly shananigins that have gone on with so many owners, and support something better...AROS. The in fighting I read on A.org about MorphOS vs. AmigaOS4 is just pointless. It seems that most everybody wants to badly to have a PPC system rather than x86 because they fear being crushed by MS or they have an inferiority complex about CPU's. It's often forgotten (or left out of the AOS/MOS arguements) that AROS is (or was last I heard) being ported to PPC systems so everybody could be happy and have a perfectly viable Amiga'ish OS solution if they could just come together. I wish I had more money to donate to AROS development and or that I could code in C so I could try to help out. I think that with enough backing by people AROS could really surprise a lot of people in both the Linux and Windows worlds. There are plenty of other "hobby" OSes out there that are gaining speed rapidly, most notably in my mind, SkyOS. I know they are going for something commercial, but this OS written basically from scratch in the last few years is making leaps and bounds and it saddens me to just not see that kind of support for our OS which has a much longer history (as the Amiga) behind it that something practically new. Is the Amiga community really that small and or fractured to not be able to work together? To me, Linux is a confusing, kludged together mess. Windows is bloated, slow, and buggy as all get-out. The Amiga-style OS still offers a leaner base to start from that has its similarities to UNIX but is also a lot friendlier to use right from the start.

Okay, sorry for all of that. I know this topic is about commercial apps we'd like to see. I am sure all of us have plenty on their lists of apps they want to run under AROS. Maybe it would be better to discuss / brainstorm ways of getting AROS noticed and supported with either coders or $$$....not that I have any great ideas off the top of my head.

(Sorry again...I am sure almost everybody has thought similar things as me.)

We must to be realistic.
The OS is incomplete.
When it'll be complete, Aros'll need much work over it for to come modern.
Nothing of impossible, but it needs time.

For that we can forget the idea about commercial applications.
We have much programms only wait to be re-compilated.
It'll need much work but for the moment is the only realistic solution for to have applications running on Aros.

If only all community of Amiga should be focus on Aros ....

I would love to see commercial apps for AROS. I would buy them!! But we really need a useable OS first. Can't have an office suite with priting support. Can't have internet/network accesss with TCP/IP and NIC drivers. Can't do much without graphics drivers (anyone talk to Sci-Tek about the Snap drivers?). We need to be able to install onto any partition of any size drive. The ATA device is faster but HD access is still not as fast as it could be, nor as fast as it should in order to live up to its Amiga roots. Need to be able to dual boot with Winblows and or Linux. Needs to be eaiser to use than either of those (as an Amiga like system that won't be hard to do). Can't do much with audio without audio drivers. How about scanner support/USB, yada yada yada. Some of this we could get from CUPS, SANE or some already done USB stack but who will port them? We have started the bounty program which has helped a whole lot but we still have the same hard core of devs we have always had, we need more, lots more just working on AROS in general. The 2-4 we have just will never be able to get all the work that needs to be done finished. It is so close but yet so far away it is hard to really have too much hope. I wish there was a way to hire devs to work on AROS, not just bounties. If I had the money I would do it, in a heardbeat!

But really I belive that when AROS is complete enough that people can download it, install it to a partition and get some general use out of it. Then we will start seeing a few brave companies port their software. If that does well more will come. We are lucky in that the system we are pulling for is desigined to be eaisy to port Amiga software too. That should help. WE JUST NEED AN OS!!
