Too bad ! I hope someday it will be possible to port all that software...

I'm a digital dj, I'm using that setup :

Resized Image

I also have an dj-something yamaha keyboard I use as a midi controller too (a dozen of knobs and a sensitive aftertouch keyboard, great for using samples, software filters and virtual synths)

Unfortunatly, I have to use windows (with an old celeron dedicated pc, with a decent audigy 24bit 2 lines in 3 lines out card)! Because my KDJ500 (dj mixing device) has only mac and windows drivers, so I can't use any (at least) linux software...

My dream is to make a amiga music machine, with live oriented software...to remember my old days with my vynil plates, Octamed sound studio running on the a1200 (I even had an aura sampler on it...never worked correctly BTW)and my cheap little casio keyboard plugged on mIDI on the miga !

I just need something like ableton + traktor or MIXXX +rebirth+ aros drivers and templates for my USB controller, after all

I'm afraid this time it won't work...

I think there's no easy way to port any of these applications as we're missing many libraries for them to work (same issue as AE 5 with wxWidgets).

Best would be to build something from scratch, but for this I won't have the necessary time to invest.

I bump the topic, since these times we're speaking about audio evolution...

Why not trying to put the aros machine on the music scene ? Making the amiga music abilities legend a reborn ?

For me, amiga was 3 things : graphics (photogenics and personal paint), games, and music (bars and pipes and octamed, mainly). I remember when the best techno vynils were made on trackers...

Having a aros machine working flawlessly, with browsers, good worbench etc...is a great thing for sure, but I dream about a world wher Aros's got killer apps like we had in the past on amiga...

Mixxx is one of them in my opinion.

Since it's open source software, can we imagine to port it on aros ?

well ... reason---- not really (unless you think of the cables on the backside of the reason devices)-- but it's much more basic. most objects just do things like mathematical calculations, or sending data over udp, or cutting messages into pieces.. the reason devices are full developed devices. of course you can build fully developed synths samplers or effect devices with this yourself. or incorporate externals written in c, that have these funcions.

but in some aspects you could compare it to reaktor, or to the wiring in (analogue) synths in general..

vvvv is also similar...

and analysis tool: you can build some analysis tools with this yourself!

the system looks like Reason music software, in a way. And looks like some analysing tools a friend of mine (develloper in the bank systems) is using too !

it's very easy to learn -- i'm no developer at all as well -- i'm doing music with max. pd is just a cool tool, and something that aros could use to show off to the amiga community!
:)

ps: have a look at some screenshaots from either max/msp or pd... the concept is the same in these apps -- you put boxes on a field, connect their inputs & outputs, and the data flow is always from top right to lower left corner!
