Here is one of some slight interest to Amiga fans, since this was a machine that Jay Miner worked on (he did graphics and I think audio, and yes, Atari 800's graphics rocked for the time period).

I'd rather see one made out of an Amiga 1200, or better yet, an Amiga 600. We'll need to wait for the nano-itx board for that one however (http://www.mini-itx.com/news/11781086/).

I considered following in his footsteps but decided that I'd rather work on AROS a bit. If I just make my own mini-itx case, then it benefits me, but if I work on AROS, it benefits everyone and I have more ability to do it anyway.

Nice cases. But I am not talented enough to do something like that. I would destroy the case long before I got it done...

Wow, hey why consider just sticking to AROS? Admittedly, the functionality is less now, but it will grow rapidly, perhaps more rapidly than the other Amiga-alikes. I'd imagine that $1000 could go towards a nice via mini-itx motherboard to host it on, with $850 left over for beer or maybe a really exceptionally cool case!

Best use of $1000 I can think of. Cut back the CPU to a 3500+ and have another $265 to spend on something else, like really good memory or bumping the video card to a 6800GT.

It dual boots between AROS and UAE, under Windows 2000/XP you can change the registry to boot straight into any program.

The shell= registry value needs changing from explorer.exe to the full UAE path (mine is D:\Amiga.exe) under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Note - don't change it until you know UAE can start and boot ok. Make a mental note of the install floppy keyboard shortcut.

On my setup I've got Windows XP SP2 stripped out (only things that are needed are installed/enabled, and I only have anti-virus installed), that takes up about 1Gb. I disabled a pile of the services, and it boots in about 30 seconds all done.

If I need Windows I do Ctrl-Alt-Del, go to task manager, and start a new task (explorer.exe). You can also create an extra key called winshell in the registry, if needed the shell can be renamed to amishell and winshell can be renamed to shell. Testing from Windows is a must when you get a new version of UAE!

I'm not sure about dual-booting two copies of XP, as simple partition hiding doesn't work on it, Windows 98 will no probs though, on the same drive! (provided 98s on first).
