Dr. Schulz as once again updated his blog. He's been working very hard on this long and difficult project so if you can, please throw him some beer money.

Dr. Schulz has updated his blog. Not the best news but atleast things are moving. Just have to wait for a second phase of kernel cooking. X86-64 bounty is still open to donations.

Aha, thank you. I didn't expect that it is so simple.

Have this flags always been set when developing for AROS or only for system near development?

I guess the main reason for disabling those is that the
faked cross compiler (ie. the current system compiler with
other specs) is used. Features disabled by those flags might
work when used with Fabios cross compiler. But I'm not
too sure about all that.

I do not use the RTTI, I do not use the standard includes. The unwind tables (DWARF) and exceptions are disabled aswell.

The disadvantage of this approach is, that I have to write all needed libraries by myself, but on the other hand, how should the default "new operator" work on a bare hardware?

You can take and adapt from stlport and/or boost. AFAIK
there are no license incompatibilities. There are also
macro based RTTI solutions floating around.

PS. C++ is cute

That's for sure . Using C++ for several years now
at work I don't understand why so many amiga devs
are stuck with pure C for so long. C++ can make
life so much easier.

Btw. it's possible, with similar restrictions of course,
to use C++ in linux kernel modules. But this is considered
'extremly monster evil' by some.

And another one: L4, the micro kernel is written in
C++.

Is this C++ used only in the x86-64 part or also somewhere else in the core code of AROS ?

greets,
Staf.

C++, aha, now I'm curious. How's coming g++ into play with
the build system?

Pretty simple. Since I do use neither the STL nor the libstdc++, I have defined the new makefile rule:

$(TARGETDIR)/%.o : %.cc
%compile_q opt="$(CFLAGS) -fno-rtti \
-fno-asynchronous-unwind-tables -fno-exceptions \
-nostdinc++"

I do not use the RTTI, I do not use the standard includes. The unwind tables (DWARF) and exceptions are disabled aswell.
