Yeah, but the GA-K8NF-9 only costs ?50

I would never recomend a Pentium over an Athlon64 now... my 2GHz Athlon64 eats my 3.06Ghz Pentium4 machine for breakfast.

slightly O.T. fromt this O.T. thread ;

I was mulling over getting a dual G5, until I found this

http://www.hp.com/workstations/pws/xw6200/index.html

Now I need to know
A> if AROS will function on it or not
B> discuss alternatives

*Caveat:* I'm leery of hp's "domestic" computers {having been a PC repairman for many years} , but I'm fond of their spectrum analyzers, havent touched their servers ....
such a quandry

I think HP are pretty good... but I would strongly recommend an nForce4 motherboard (Gigabyte do a cheap feature packed board the GA-K8NF-9) with an Athlon64, if you can build your own machine do it.

And I can't see any reason why AROS wouldn't run on that HP machine.

Googled for the GA-K8NF-9 ,http://www.spacecentersystems.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/274174

IMHO the board has restrictive limits
- GA-K8NF-9 = max 4GB RAM {sizeable chunk I agree}
- HP xw6200 = max 8GB RAM {twice the chunk}
- GA-K8NF-9 = one CPU slot {albeit swift CPU w/HT}
- HP xw6200 = two CPU slots {SMP}{HT}
- GA-K8NF-9 = NForce4 w/SLI focus {gaming framerates}
- HP xw6200 = E7527 not SLI focused
my chart I guess tells me I need to clarify a few things
a) already have a gaming rig, rarely game now that Im old
so framerates and SLI are not of immediate concern
b} looking to test the waters of smp/multicore and CAD/3D/FFTs/folding@home A/V cinellara *nix+SMP 64bitOS
HDR grafix, lets not forget emulation
(basically changing hobby from computergaming to computer"work")
