Welcome! It should be noted that AROS isn't exactly ready for prime time.

UAE needs a ROM to run, you might have to create a floppy with the ROM on it first, then, boot with the CD, finally copy UAE to that floppy, and run it. Or, you can install AROS to your harddrive and run it from there. Most of us run it hosted at the moment, as it's possible to do development on it in that environment (native development environment coming soon).

AROS is still quite rough around the edges, expect a rather wild, untamed environment, which of course is half the fun.

AROS, on it's own, cannot run Amiga binaries, but can run software which is recompiled from sources which depend on AmigaOS 3.1, and or MUI, as long as the software doesn't directly access the hardware. Sometimes a few small changes are required to get it to compile, so it will probably initiate a new, open sourcey, chapter in Amigoid history.

There are some games on the nightly builds.

UAE comes with the ISO so you can play about with it. That means fairly good compatibility with older 680x0 software.

To run Amiga games you have to use UAE (unless the game har been ported/recompiled to AROS). There is a version of UAE available for AROS aswell.

There aren't that many AROS applications or games yet, but there are some. LBreakout2 and Soliton are particularily fun :)

AROS Newbie
#1
Hi All

I'm new to AROS, I am downloading the nightly build at the moment and plan to run it on my PC.

I'm a little hazy on the details of AROS, are there any AROS games/apps out there? Can I run old Amiga games or do I have to use UAE?

Thanks
