Aside from the fact that I don't clearly see why would one approach be better than the other one, you're quite wrong: the shell is just an executable like any others on AmigaOS, which register itself with the dos.library and gets a special startup message... on startup. The console is a device, but so it's on unix as well.

Well - is there anything good or cool about unix shells? I must confess, when I was still subscribing AROS-dev I kept flaming Fabio for making AROS too unixish. Of course I realise that this is the only way to get gcc and stuff to AROS, but for me (and I administered VMS, OS/400, several unices, Windows) unix is just crappy bunch of randomly gathered pieces of code without any idea (unlike AmigaOS elegance through simplicity). It really pi*es me off, when I see unix style command line switches instead of neat ReadArgs style switches
And while AmigaOS shells are I/O devices, unix shells are executables. Yuck!

hi,
i will be very impolite, but if someone has money for bounties, please think of add: - job (task) manager - signaling to our libc. that is what is missing for a working pdksh (so we could have a "complete" native dev enviroment. i think it worth a bountie (that would, probably allow the conclusion of self-compile bountie) regards, ps: AROS will be the only amiga-like system with a native *nix shell (afaik)  |
