I agree. With Aros, EVERY computers shop in the world IS virtually an amiga shop. It 's what I liked so much when I discovered Aros: virtually any pc in my house could become a high end amiga, like the pegasos, amigaone and other sams I could not afford.

No need for a new exotic hardware, IMHO...we need AROS 1.0 and good apps (at least the basis we can see on netbooks and nettops or new "imac-like" pcs : internet rich media content, word suite, multimedia suite) on it

If so, take my word for it the X1000 is no joke. The hype is a bit over the top, but the machines WILL arrive, I am very confident of that.

Edit: I am working towards a world where Aros has the portable Amiga market and Hyperion the desktop.

Amiga is way dead to me.
AROS is alive and kicking.

Why ?

Cause you can use AROS everywhere. Hosted, vmw, native, you name it. On top of that its open source and free as a bird :D

I think it's more of a solution looking for a problem to solve. I still haven't heard any real world application that an Amiga person would be involved in that would be solved by the XMOS. Even Haynie is scratching his head over it and he's a robotics guy.

Developers are starting to use the XMOS chip as an external unit, I believe it is actually an inspired idea, but ONLY if it has direct memory and bus access.

This is one of those game changer moments if handled well.

X1000 is not a joke but the custom chip is one. For what do you need a custom chip. It would be only usefull if you have developers using it. But the most stuff on AOS4 is nowadays ported from linux/unix. You can implement stuff like video encoding since no good gpu-drivers are around.(on aros it can change) So it seems to be a workaround for me.

For aros as a mobile os i hope that the basics will be supported in a year or two. So that stuff like wlan(with wpa) and acpi are working. The rest seems to work on my notebook(but haiku is working way better even in a vm)

To expensive, PPC again :(

The world today is mobile, and laptop.
They should at least make a laptop where amigaos could be used, but no, they aiming for high-end marked, with no high-end programs.

I wouldn't be so negative about the X1000, but I completely agree when you say the world is now mobile. Honestly, I started really enjoying using AROS when I got my N610c and I could install it on my netbook: with these configurations, I started to feel again the true Amiga spirit. And my Aspire One is my new Amiga 1200. No doubt about this: a handy machine, just enough powerful, with everything I really need.

Time will tell, but be honest i think that "custom chips crap", can be only reality, when it's preparing like something revolutionary, very modern, and with support of many major game-developer and software-developer companies. Then , maybe. But making today one more ppc board (even with 2ghz it's not so fast), and again with that "closed architecture crap", and some "custom chips", it's imho way to die. Or not to die, but not for future.. I can understand when companies make consoles with closed architecture (like xbox, ps3, etc). But they give for user something absolutly modern, and for not so big price..

But time will tell. But for some fanatics these words about "Custom chips" , just crash the head, and they scream "Amiiiga". What make me think, that fanboism will never die :)

And still, i with luck for that project to Hyperion. Maybe they will introduced full memory protection and smp in os4 for that hardware, but , then all 68k apps will running out of box (uae). But let's see. No one from Hyperion answer on that questions still.
