Lol, no wonder I have never heard the term - on the opposite side of the planet. Now terms like "doofus", "lombard" and "unit", thats a different story. :)

I cannot make Icaros boot from a USB device. I have an old USB DVDRom stored aware - will dig it out and try with that.

Paolone - thanks for the search tip, I think I found what I require.

Unfortunately, nearly all the Asus and Toshiba and Acer AOD150/AOD250 and early Samsung netbooks need an Atheros driver and Cammy's netbook needs a JME driver.

If you dig a little with the 'saerch' function of this site, you will spot the current solution for the resolution issue. And also that cabled network is already supported on most (if not all) netbooks.

Lol, I just caught up with this forum - I haven't laughed so hard in ages. :)

MrZ - I'm glad you couldn't resist - because I DEFINATELY would not been able to. :)

Anywho, thanks for not thinking I'm a troll (they have such terrible skin)... but what the hell does "polemic" mean?!

Now I have to try and remember what this forum is about... oh yes, a supported netbook.

My understanding is that cpu, ide, usb are working on atom based netbooks, but sound, wifi and ethernet are not. This is correct?

To get back to the subject in hand.

I am having some success in getting all the bits in place for a fully supported netbook. Which netbook is not decided as the components supported will decide that. However, I guess you know I am working towards a fully supported iMica so most can figure it out.

This will NOT be this year but hopefully before june next year to coincide with my push for the Amiga 25th anniversary push.

However, I think we all want the same thing here and lets not fall out over a bad choice of jokes

@cammy

I will talk to you privatly about your netbook and your experiences. That does not mean support for it, but if your spec coincides with our efforts then it will be all good

Because I have not said much does not mean I am doing nothing.

I do not think he is a troll, maybe just a bit polemic.

If we decide to give the "benefit of doubt" to others and avoid being too touchy, usually flames stop to spread and the conversation gets much more interesting.

Agreed

Manu - thank you.

I was only ever suggesting we all get behind people pushing a hardware standard to show our support.

Anywho, to anyone who took offense to anything I posted, please accept my apologies - NO offense was intended.

I agree with you Manu that wifi is the next thing we really need in an Aros netbook. My understanding is that the only wifi driver for Aros or OS 3.1 at the moment is for the prism II chipset.

From the little research I have done, this seems to have been a fairly popular chipset back in 2001, 2002, but is no longer available on any new wifi devices.

If this is wrong, please let me know. Anywho, the prism II driver also has the limitation of only supporting WEP, not WPA.

I am not even sure which wifi chipsets are most common now, although I suspect the Atheros chipset is still readily available.

I guess, the next step would be to decide on which is the most widespread chipset and place a bounty for it. As Cammy stated in an earlier post, most Atom based netbooks use similar hardware, so what chipset for wifi do they use?

I already have several netbooks, EEEPC and Aspire One, but would be willing to purchase another if need be.
