Sweet! Sound "just works" with VirtualBox 4.2 (Mac OS X). So far, I highly recommend VB 4.2 for AROS on Mac.

I'm playing some of my favorite old MOD songs while working on my Mac (AROS is in background). And I'm loving it! :D

dave18: Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately it did not work. AROS is not locking up when I test sound via Prefs now. But no sound occurs. I have not tried playing a video with the new AHI prefs.

I'm going to try VirtualBox 4.2. I wonder if the virtual disk is compatible so I can share the same VM between two versions. I mean, since vm additions aren't available anyway. ;)

I remember having an issue with sound and had to go into AHI in prefs and set all music units (0 through 3) to 2 channels and set the volume on each. Worth trying before anything else.

I'll give VirtualBox 4.2 a try and give an update once I have one.

I already own and use Parallels for Win7. I wish AROS worked in Parallels. I get the GRUB boot menu but then it locks up during startup. That is why I tried VirtualBox.

I'd rather not have two commercial vm products on my MacBook, but that may be the best option for stability/compatibility.

Here is a link (as of Aug '16) of VirtualBox 4.2 builds, in case any one else comes across this post looking for a solution.

Thanks.

VirtualBox started losing Aros compatibility around version 5. Try VMWare or VirtualBox 4.x if possible for a VM.

I don't know if this is specific to my Icaros Desktop install or if I would have the same problem with other AROS distributions.

I've read several places that sound should work in my environment. One of the praises of VirtualBox is that it supports AC-97. I've followed the steps that I've found for configuring and troubleshooting. One of the tests I did included turning on some form of logging via the terminal and redirecting the output to a text file. Which revealed nothing except that the logging was started and then stopped. No errors.

When I test via Prefs, nothing "seems" to happen. When playing a video that included sound, the OS locked up on me. (I may have been trying to change the volume. I don't remember for sure, that was four days ago.)

Any suggestions?

Thanks
