Thanks.

The user manual is great already. But there is so much to AROS, it could contain a lot more. I don't know how many would suggest additional content (or how many could actually work on the manual), but it would be nice if there were a place to submit suggestions.

Perhaps there is already? ;)

If not, how about creating a "Group" for User Manual in the Feature Request area of the SourceForge page? (https://sourceforge.net/p/aros/feature-requests/)

[Edit: After I finished this post, I realized that is the general AROS SourceForge page. Is there a central place to create and track tickets for Icaros Desktop?]

My first suggestion would be to add a topic on FKEY. The User Manual tells me how I can enable and disable FKEY, but doesn't tell me anything about what FKEY is.

Hi Jon,
FKey is a little commodity program which allows you to set hotkeys to launch programs. As for which key this is, you could set the hotkey to be any of the funtion keys or indeed any key on the keyboard, along with any qualifier or combination of qualifiers, e.g. ALT F1 would set the hotkey to alt+F1, CTRL TAB would set the hotkey to ctrl+tab key, etc. If you are using the standard Icaros install it should start FKey on launch and you should see an icon on Wanderer for it. Double click to start its interface and have a play with it.

Cheers,
Nigel.

I've managed the 'Hello World', but I'm still trying to scale the next step.. it's a long way up to kernel hacking and writing drivers!

Earlier tonight I decided to wipe and start over. Before doing installing Icaros Desktop again, I tried out a (bare ?) AROS install and AspireOS.

I'm definitely happier with Icaros Desktop. It is definitely coming along nicely. Maybe I'll even be able to write my own hello world app over the weekend.

I mentioned elsewhere that the first document that I thought was the user's manual, actually wasn't. After a helpful suggestion from this site earlier, I read through the actual user's manual.

Someone (or many) have done a great job on that user manual. It contains a lot of good information. It would have saved me asking a couple of questions and it answered a couple that I have not bothered to ask yet. So kudos and my apologies for not reading through it sooner. ;)

I noticed a couple of items that should be corrected the next time the user manual is revised. The images on page 13 are overlaying portions of two paragraphs, completely hiding ports of those paragraphs.

Could someone add an explanation about FKey? I basically know what functionality it provides and how to disable it. But how do I use it? It is a special key on the keyboard like the lAros and rAros keys?

And there is some gibberish text on page 75 that probably should be cleaned up. ;)

Jon
