Yes, each contrib archive contains native GCC port allowing you to compile applications for the give architecture. To what degree this GCC works is slightly different topic. Architectures that come from trunk (x86_64, m68k, PPC) might have issues because noone is using them. I remember I had to spend several weeks to get the x86 and ARMHF working correctly nativelly.

@Deadwood:

Can you try to compile Odyssey 1.23 for Aros 68k ?
I want to see if it runs without problems, there !

I have the idea to start work on a X64 distribution in near future and I would like to offer developers the opportunity to support it. Perhaps it would be also interesting for core devs like you to test x64 porting. I think being cross-platform is a big advantage compared to other platforms so we should use it. But up to know if somebody asked me how to compile for platforms like x64 i was clueless, Amidevcpp is not getting updated for a long time already, if Hollywood ever gets AROS X64 or AROS ARM support is unknown so we need to create something ourselves.

One another question for basic understanding... nightly+contrib combined include a complete c/C++ environment (GCC) for the platform, so if you combine nightly + contrib X86 you can compile software for AROS X86?

My idea would be if you would do the same for X64 and ARM you could also compile software for AROS X64 and AROS ARM?

there is multiple problems with mesa on 68k. i have quick fixed one, which address the softpipe frontend getting blatantly wrong pixel order on 68k 32bit. but this is more subtle in detail. mesa dosnt work correctly on 16 bits on any architecture as it seems since it assumes hard coded pixel format in depandance of endiannes. it only gets worse on amiga where there is no standard for that. ideally mesa (softpipe) should check the pixel format of the screen it opens a window on, at run time and adopt it.

what remains then is still the format for textures and stencils. im not sure i can fix it on my own without any help. so far the result is that few demos show already correct colours. others still dont.

yes the contribs work

Example:

main problem is speed of MESA/Gallium at the moment (from first tests)

oh really?

I was not aware of that. Will test

That would be great

Are you sure? I have just tested todays nightly and I see no change when starting MESA Demos

I just realized that last Aros 68k nightly is from 17. so I will download new nightly next days and test it. If it works I will rebuild Aros Vision based on that.

Then 68k has MESA/Gallium (in opposite to others)

Thanx Wawa

There is already a fix for it in a recent nightly, afaik.

from a first small test (68k ports)

Vice seems to work
DosBox and the games do not work because obviously needing Gallium. For testing I will activate MESA/Gallium and see if they work theoretical. The problem with MESA/Gallium on 68k is it works but does not show colours correctly.
