That would be cool since they also have wxPython so we could create gui apps using python.

Sure, but then you may want to have a look at wxWindows and attempt a port of it to one or all of the Amigoid systems

Well, first of all, the design pattern there is a "made up" example. I'm only interested in the notion of building simple interfaces without worrying about cross platform incompatibility.

People who want to create Amiga/AROS only apps and use more advanced features wouldn't be using this system in the first place However, even for AROS etc., not every app needs every feature.

I can't shake the notion that, a well thought-out abstraction with common gui object set for gui creation would help make cross platform applications a lot easier to code.

Sprouts. Admit it, you know they're just totally wrong.

Don't see why it wouldn't be feasible, although I'm not particularly fond of the design pattern you want to use... I'm not sure you'd be able to exploit all Zune/MUI features like that.

General MUI/Zune question

Hi,

So, if I understand correctly, AROS uses a MUI alike GUI (and presumably all of the C macro orgy that MUI/Reaction both involve).

Given I'm no expert on MUI (and hence Zune) how easy do the AROS developers here think it would be to hide the most commonly used GUI elements (buttons, scrollers, etc) behind some nice abstract C++ classes?

Suppose we have an abstract factory interface, called GUIFactory, which is implemented a singleton charged with the creation of various GUI objects that abstract the particular gui object (say a button) behind a common interface. A simplified (and totally synthetic) example might be

GUIFactory* gui = GUIFactory::getInstance();
try {

// root layout

GUILayout* root = gui->createLayout(...etc...);

// save/use/cancel strip

GUILayout* layout = gui->createLayout(...etc...);

layout->addElement(gui->createButton("Save", etc...));

layout->addElement(gui->createButton("Use", etc...));

layout->addElement(gui->createButton("Cancel", etc...));

root->addElement(layout);

} catch (...) {

// tittybiscuits!
}

Assume event handling is abstracted elsewhere and the above only deals with the creation of a user interface.

So, feasible or not?

Before anybody suggests the rather obvious "why not just use Zune directly", bear in mind the above concept will also be wrapped around Reaction, MFC etc
