I completely miss the point in these spambots. They aren't even linking to any given website, or bringing any hidden advertise in signatures. So... what are they meant to do, exactly?

Thank you for having registered and welcome to these forums.

As already explained by beezle, AROS/Icaros itself is not the same as Amiga.

If your interest is more towards classic amiga's then you might perhaps be better of using an emulator like WinUAE or FS-UAE.

As a bonus you can run AROS on these emulators as well. For a complete classic amiga distribution i would suggest trying Aros Vision.

If your interest is more towards experimenting with running an AmigaOS alike operating system on modern hardware, then AROS/Icaros is perfectly suited for that.

The AROS workbench (Wanderer) and shell feels right like on classic Amiga's, and as also explained by beezle can run classic Amiga software by means of an emulator and/or AmiBridge.

If you have any questions then feel free to ask, although keep in mind we are not Amiga emulator experts (there are better suited forums for that like eab), rather we focus on AROS usage here.

I hope you enjoy your time with AROS, but just to clarify, AROS itself isn't compatible with amiga software, but rather api compatible, meaning in effect, with the sourcecode being available amiga software can (and quite a bit has) be ported to run on AROS with minimal fuss (in theory, and so long as there's not heavy hitting of custom hardware).

There is however a version OF UAE that is unique to AROS that lets a user runs amiga software, system friendly or not, as though it's native to AROS (double click icons on aros desktop to launch, aros menus/windows/screens for 68k amiga software, and so on).

It's quite effective but can take a bit of setting up.
If you're using Icaros, Amibridge goes some way to easing the process, but the nature, and wide variety of amiga hardware/systems out there to be emulating makes it a little daunting for some people still. Persist though and it's a lot of fun.

Oh, and by the way, the above only applies if youre going to be running the pc/x86 native version of AROS. If running on An actual 68k Amiga you of course don't have to run emulators (unless the "amiga" you're using is an emulator of course(Winuae)).
