The AROS CD handler supports ISO 9660 Level 1, RockRidge, and HFS format CDs. It was never meant to handle Joliet CDs or DVDs of any kind. There's still quite a bit of work to be done before it handles everything. One person was working on it, but is sidetracked on something else at the moment. Hopefully he'll be able to get back to it soon.

The standard ISO 9660 (Level 1) supports only 8.3 filenames just like MS-DOS.

Level 2 on, the other hand, supports up to 31 characters in the filenames.

You have to use the Joliet extension to see filenames longer than this.

AFAIK AROS only supports ISO 9660 Level 1.

I've connected a DVD drive on my AROS machine, and while I was playing some MP3s with madahi, I've noticed a strange behavior of file names on the DVD. I don't know exactly how ISO standards are managed on AROS, but while in old good ISO 9660-1 CD-ROMs file names appear truncated to 8.3 strandard

(ex "paolone_under-shower-singing in the rain.mp3" appears as "PAOLONE_.MP3")

...I noticed that on a DVD (probabily with longer ISO 9660-2 32 characters name) they appear truncated in a strange manner

ex "paolone_under-shower-singing in the rain.mp3" appears as "paolone_under-shower-singing in.mp"

with a 2-char extension, both in the shell and in DirectoryOPUS. If I try to access the file with a copy command, dopus or also madahi, AROS won't find the file:

madahi paolone_under-shower-singing in.mp

for istance doesn't work. However, if I complete the extension with the last character

madahi paolone_under-shower-singing in.mp3

everything works fine as expected. I can also access and copy manually files. But, as you can understand, without a working drang'n'drop GUI, and Dopus unable to find the file, it's really annoying to copy file-per-file a huge archive of music! Is there any way to fix this?
