The linux tar.bz2 files are broken. I can not extract them on Windows (WinRAR 3) or Linux (Slackware 10). Both report that the .tar is damaged.

Those files aren't tar files, but tar.bz2 files.
You should use PowerZip or an archiver capable of bzip2. The mime-type given by the site is false and crappy Windows add .tar at the .tar: .tar.tar and not .tar.bz2. Rename your file (after having configured windows to show you ALL EXTENSIONS) to .tar.bz2. |

ps: the error code in winzip 8.1 is:"error reading header after processing 0 entries"

downloaded 5 different tar files (floppy,iso-images of snapshots and daily builds of the standalone 386 versions + docs)
couldn't open with zipitfastpro 3.0 and winzip 8.something (tried on 2 different pcs (w98 and WinMe) are the current files all broken or am i doing something wrong?
